right guy's i have in my posesion,
1x M50 engine J reg
a cosworth turbo
and an intercooler  mooowooohahahaaa

so as the 2.5 M20 is fecked, you can see whats coming,
the M50 is in the car im using at the moment,
i know this is not just going to be a straight swap, it's going to be a time consuming job,
and i have a few q's
the mount's will have to be made up i think, if so does anybody have some sort of picture i could go on?

and the prop? will it have to be cut and shortend? or could i find 1 that is a direct fit?

engine managment, plug and play? or emerald?

idealy, i want the engine is first before i start to put the turbo on,
so can anybody assist on this lil project
im in no rush for this to be done, it's just something that is going to start say mid january, when the cost of xmas has stoped

cheers peeps : )

Sounds like a good plan to get the engine in first and then do the turbo hardware. Kinda like splitting it into two sub-projects.

For my money, I'd definately go for an aftermarket engine management system, gives you so much more flexibility and at least half a chance of getting the settings spot on for the engine which will be doubly removed from it's native habitat :)

Good luck!

A good choice of engine to turbocharge, these do respond well with the 4 valves per cylinder.

Rather than me say a lot have a look on the below link. Absolutly loads of m50 turbos on this forum with a much greater wealth of knowledge than my own. Please bear in mind your steering UJ is on the "wrong" side compared to them(americanny forum)

emerald ecu's, how much do they go for? and would they do a bit disscount if i bought 3? i suppose if i don't ask i wont get eh,

cheers for that link there jon, i'll be on there quite a bit i think draining all the info i can out of there

Think they're about Ԛ£550+vat.

I got a discount for being a member of a pug forum, spect they'd do the same for this one, especially if you buy 3!

right iv been scouring the net for information and i have found these so far...

http://www.akgmotorsport.com/usm50swap.html

and after reading that, the conversion doesn't acctually look too hard(he say's in a quiet voice)
i mean i am just geting the thing in there for the time being before turbo, and at hardly any cost from the looks of thing's, i think the most expencive thing i will need is the wiring adapter, which i can get from here..

http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthr ... ht=adapter

then once it is in there i will start thinking on emerald/turbo part of the project.

the hunt for information continues............................

erm well sort of mate,

since you were up, the M50 engine is out,
iv sourced a gearbox from evilbay and iv got both sets of mount's, arm's and rubber ones ready, basicly iv got everything i need to be getting on with it, iv been doing too much for other people and not leaving enough time for my own conversion
pluss i want it right the first time and not having to rip it all apart once it's all bolted together, (yeah right)

you started on your's yet grayham??

fuzzy......... the turbo is just a T3 not brand new, but it seems to be fine enough no untoward movement on the shaft and spins nice and freely,
i was wanting a bigger one, but for a starting platform i think it's good enough

now iv just got to harrass my mate to make a fannymold for FREEEEEEE

Excellent craig, sounds like it might be done for summer, and i mean turbocharged! Somethings you might want to consider....

Whilst you have the engine out, you might want to take the sump off and drill the return feed for the turbo now, trust me it would be a lot easier. It would be easy to bung it as well, with some crushed and soldered copper.

Also that manifold, i think you'll want the turbo to be placed around the washer bottle area, this gives you plenty of room to try and piss about with the downpipe and how you will clear the steering UJ and engine mount. Some things to think about for sure.

A t3 cossie will be a good starting point, you can always put on something bigger, its easier putting on a bigger turbo rather than having to replace a head because you went too big!

Anyway a bit of food for thought. :)
