Best jack for lowered cars
Moderator: martauto
Need a new trolley jack and just wondered what people use for lowered cars? Looks like machine mart do a pretty cheap low entry one.

Personally I would be happier having one that lifts it higher and make do having to drive it up onto blocks to get it under the car.
I haven't used a low entry jack so wouldn't know for sure. I have a £30 job that I bought 10 odd years ago it doesn't lift that high, I'm usually hanging off the edge biteing my nails in fear when the arms fully extended moving the car sideways more than up. When ever I work at my girlfriends parents they have a bigger jack which lifts much safer and with more ease.
I guess really in short make sure it still lifts relatively high.

Drive onto a plank of wood before you start.
Costco jacks offer te best value for money if you can find someone with a costco card but you will be looking at £100 easy.
I have one and it is awesome

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Best things ive ever bough.

Make sure it is a quick lift one! Once you've used a quick lift jack you realise just how shit a normal one is. Getting the car in the air in a matter of seconds is so much better than spending 5mins pumping away at the handle for it to only rise a few inches (ooerr missus).G-Bear wrote:Just had a look at the one from costco... 508mm max lifting heightthat'll solve the nail bite.
The steel costco one is identical to that Snap-on one pictured above.
In an ideal world go for the Ally one but I think it has a slightly less max lifting weight but if you have to cart it about it won't break your back!
It is also quick lift I believe (feels it anyway)

Do not get an ally one! Get an arcan. So solid. The extra weight dosent matter you're rolling it on the floor so no biggie really

Lose some weight then fat lad... lol
I can fit under my car without a jack (it is on standard suspension), although lately it's harder to get under there due to my chest because of the gym.

Swear there is a build picture thread of someone using one of those. Think it might be an E21 in the other BMW chat forum.
My trusty halfords jack as given up recently, so I need a new one. Are the costco jacks people are looking at the SiP ones? Do you have to have a membership card to buy online?

That snap on one looks good but bet that wasnt cheap! Seen a few aluminium ones on the net but they were only like 1kg lighter than a cheap steel one?? And lift 1.25 tonne which is a bit dodgy I would of thought? As far as max lift hight goes I've never really had much problem working under a car before? Maybe I just don't do enough under there ha.

The lightweight one from Costco is my weapon of choice, highly recommended. Doesn't slide under my cabby which has eibach springs though.Duke137 wrote:Drive onto a plank of wood before you start.

I've got the Costco Arcan aluminium lightweight jack, it fits under my car which is lowered 40mm and has an m30 weighing the front down. Nice and light to put in the boot to take to track days as well, very pleased with it, and it is a quick lift jack as well
Still probably won't reach the underside of my car. *grumbles about silly high stock suspension*Topblag wrote:Costco ones lift to half a metre.
Can anyone confirm the min height of the costco jack? Cant seem to find it on google. Not that it really matters now.
