I'll just have to guess where to drill the holes. It's a lip spoiler with screws already inb it so it is actually difficult to gauge where they would be when it goes on. Oh well, tyhere's always spare boot lids for sale on here so off I go....

Put something on the end of the bolts that will mark the bootlid when lining it up?
I wouldn't worry about damaging the lid as you'll need to put masking tape on for drilling, so, apply masking tape, dab some paint or something on the screws, place where you think is right, remove, drill marked spots?

This basic guide applies to fitting any sort of body kit or panel.
1) Take a roll of wallpaper, brown parcel paper or christmas wrapping paper - anything on a roll.
2) Offer it up to the car in the general area of where your new part will go, and tape it in place. Not too firmly, we'll be removing it later.
3) Using a crayon, felt tip or other non-scratchy pen, trace any or all significant features on the body panel, a bit like doing brass rubbings back in primary school.
4) With the paper still in place, offer up your new body trim (i.e. spoiler). Line it up how you want it, then trace its outline onto the paper. If the part has protruding studs, take careful repeated measurements and transfer them to the paper.
5) Remove the part and carefully unpeel the paper.
6) On a flat surface, indoors preferably, lay the paper flat and offer up your body part so it matches its outline. Use tape lightly to join the two together.
7) Now flip the item over, and use your brass-rubbing technique to feel for the mounting holes. If there are studs, carefully press them through the paper without making massive rips.
8 ) You now have a template. Take the paper off the spoiler and back to the car, and offer it up using the original identifying marks from step 3. work out where your holes need to be drilled, use masking paint under the paper to protect against chips and cracks.
9) Check everything twice to make sure your paper hasn't sagged, your measurements were correct and you haven't got the paper the wrong way round.
10) Commence drilling.

I have a pdf. file of the BMW dealer fitting instructions for Tech 1 and Tech II spoilers, which gives the drilling positions.
Start by finding the centre line of the boot lid. Measure out from here 565mm, 346mm and 118mm to the left, and 130mm, 346mm and 565mm to the right.
The distance forward for the holes is measured from the lower edge of the boot, up and around the curved bit. The measurements are, in the same order as the measurements I've already given, 125mm, 127mm, 129mm, 129mm, 127mm and 125mm.
Hole diameter is 7.5mm.

Will get that wiki'd later if Its not been done by then.
Brian, is there any chance we could have copies of the PDF (or any others you might have) for use on the wiki?

Thanks again to all. Now fitted. I followed Brians measurements, my skill at this sort of thing is a bit lousy and ended up having to bore around a bit with the drill for a second attempt, but now it's on nice and solid.

It's not so much the fitting guide that's needed, as simply good pictures of all the available spoilers. I see so many threads in Chat with "oooh, does my Tech 1 spoiler look odd on my Tech 2" and I squint at the pictures for literally minutes thinking "who except the most anal of pedants really gives a toss?"
But that's just me

Just dumped Brians info at the bottom of the bodykit page for the time being. When I get chance I'll try to sort out a page for more detailed information on these kind of things.
