Quick question, ive fitted front fog lights to my touring however they are not connected, some thing ive never got round to doing i guess.

If i take it for an MOT on thursday will it fail, even though there is no switch for it ?

Also my Catalystic converter makes ticking noises and not long before i took it off the road, after a long motorway run at 100-110 mph it decided to give off alot of smoke when i pulled over, is there a high change of it failing for emmisions

Yes it does have a cat its a 1994 model

:)

only the rear right foglight has to work ,i've never been tested on the front fogs in over 20 yrs.

no.

they wont even attempt to switch them on. Front fog lights are not, and have never been part of the mot test.

The only way it could possibly fail on them would be if they were loose / falling out and had broken glass with sharp edges which could potentially injure a pedestrian.

emissions, no idea until it's actually put on the tester. ticking as they cool from red hot is perfectly normal though.
cheers,

harry

My touring has its MOT on Thursday, its a 93/94 but its going for test without a cat fitted to see what happens - fingers crossed as the old cat fell apart just after the MOT last year!

IF it was fitted with an identical engine from a pre August '92 model, it would be tested to the earlier emissions standards, and wouldn't need a cat.
IF the engine number on the side of the block happens to have become unreadable, such as if someone had been near it with an angle grinder, then it could well be an earlier engine.
See here: http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s07000309.htm
especially noting what is says under "2.Exact match".

i've had the wadding on a silencer set light or at least smoke up before and at that speed but importantly at those revs over a period of miles something has got mighty hot .

the best thing with an mot is to just take the car after all the usual checks like washers, bulbs tyres etc are done and go from there .

It's been a good day for the tourings - mine passed as well :D

Only needed to adjust the headlights, as I lowered the front but haven't got round to dropping the back yet

Sailed through the emissions test, thanks the '1989' engine I fitted last week winkeye

loads of e30s there, just as many e23's and e28's am sure i will be buying one, problem there is they're high up on the list when it comes to stolen cars :( and stolen cars are a big thing, my cousin had his brand new toyota land cruiser nicked :(

i'am sure a battery in the boot kit with an isolator switch under the drivers seat and a few hidden switches for fuel pump etc should be right :D

Haa, most the e30s roll 17" bling rims and have chrome badges and window tints over there. Least i know where i can get my spares from, My brand new alpina replica valance is in the post on its way, i should of got some replica tech 1 spoilers for £40 quid and a full tech II kit in fibreglass is 100 quid. (pods, front and rear bumpers, side skirts and spoiler) shame they had no intention of sending me bulk buys of there stock to the uk

Was like a halfords but with alot of old school vw bumpers and bmw bumpers, spoilers, lights, exhausts all hanging from the roof with a huge catalogue and stock room out the back :D

My cousins mate turned up in a 1998 540i security

i asked what's a security

basically its got inch thick windows which can withstand an ak47. its armored plated, and if you sit inside and someone shouts outside right upto the window you cannot hear a thing, also has a bmw intercom system if you want to talk to someone outside the car.

Was pretty cool :D
