Have a leaking fuel tank. Does anyone have any advice on whether to go for second hand and if so any breakers or second hand parts supplier recommended?

If new, what sort of money will I be looking at as they seem to vary quite a bit. One last thing, presume the tank needed is the two hole 63 litre tank?

Ta very much for any info.

Is that a BMW part? Does it come with any warranty?

Thanks

Properly good secondhand tanks are hard to come by and as its a fairly big job to change ( especially if you're doing it on axle stands ) you only want to be doing it once.

Unless you can find a perfect used one I'd be buying from Matt ( meatballs )

I have a very good used one :)
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Are you sure that your leak is from the tank?
Tanks tend to leak at the seam joint and from the entry stub, try waggling the rubber joining pipe, any movement at the tank confirms tank failure.
The filler pipe also rots and causes leaks, and the tank end of the vent pipe perishes and causes leaks.

DiY tank fitting on the driveway will take at least half a day,meatballs82's ECP price is about as keen as you are likely to find.

Whilst you have the tank out,do look carefully at the rear half of the front/rear brake pipe, and the two feeds from the 3 way union to the rear brakes, these are so much easier to get at with the tank out of the way!

They're not OEM, but I have recently been told they are as good as genuine tanks by a well respected zoner. I've sold dozens of 55 and 63l tanks now since I started dealing to the zone with no quality complaints /warranty issues so far.

The tanks come with a 12 month warranty - you'll be wanting to get it powdercoated before fitting too, I'll be doing this to mine sometime next month! :D

I just called them to check availability as it shows zero stock on the website, they actually have them in stock at the listed price.

I asked what brand they are, she said she couldn't pronounce it as they're from a Taiwanese company. I'm not sure where mine come from, waiting on an email to confirm that, if they're like for like I will forward this on to the pricing department and get it sorted. :D

I'll try, my cost price is showing as much higher than the RRP on your link though, I'll get to the bottom of it though!

Update.

Product manager has just contacted me and advised me to sell at £90 inc vat, he's not confirmed but it sounds like our tanks are from same supplier as Imperials.

£90 for a brand new tank is farkin cheap... last week when I was sorting a list out for my turd I was looking at £130 on a staff sale!!

Nice one Russel - you have saved me a few quid!! :thumb:

Nice, I might need to take a good look under my cabby to see if its in need. at this price it would be handy to have one as a spare if i'm going to need one in the future.

I'm going to save a load of quotes at this price, not sure how long they'll hold it for! Should be ok for next 30 days at least, need to look into the 55ltr tanks too.

Will be buying mine today! winkeye
