Brake pad warning light comes on, I get new pads and when changing them observe that the sensor wire was in two pieces. Figured that it might have been like that for a while & maybe the light in the instrument panel playing up. The existing pads have loads of wear left, each side.
With new ones in, and sensor cable connected the warning light has gone out again.
Thinking the fault was with the severed sensor wire, but has anyone else found theirs cut in some way..?
Brake pad sensor wire severed.....?

Sensor should be swapped each time pads are swapped.
It is important to make sure that the cable is properly clipped securely,so that it cannot rub against a moving part,as this will eventually short it to earth, thus bringing the light on.
If the cable is undamaged, however, and the light is flickering, this could indicate a dry joint on the cluster circuit board,I'm sure the zone wiki will show the correct fix in this instance.

I think it's rubbed against a moving part then. I was too hasty in getting new pads but they are on now, with new sensor of course. I've clipped the cable where it appears it should be locateddaimlerman wrote:Sensor should be swapped each time pads are swapped.

No flickering, constantly on, that's why I discounted the intermittent light issue as per wiki.

If the pad sensor leads aren't dressed properly, they will rub through on the inside of the wheel well.

Ah ok, understandable then. Provided the discs at the moment aren't hugely lipped, you should be fine.Shutthatdoor wrote: (I've not worked for over a year)
