guys my pal purchased a r32 with dsg just before xmas.to be fair i think it feels nice inside and is sure footed due to the 4wd system.for me it wasnt exiting but a good all rounder tho.the problem is his constant boasting about this car being a BEAST.he claims that he was glued to the back of an e46 m3 and that when he uses launch control he will take almost anything upto 60.he has spoken to amd who say with a few mods he will see 280 bhp.obviously on hearing this he thinks he will kill ferraris lol. has anyone had one or know much about these cars as all my friends love golf and audi and the constant crap is killin me.i actually feel to buy a 335i or an e46 m3 just to show him but there u go.

In the great automotive heirarchy, Golfs are considered an insignificant shopping car / runaround.

Ignore the peasant and his sorry councilled up bruv chariot :)

A 280bhp mk5 Golf isn't going to be that quick. It will match a M3 or a standard Skyline but that's about it IMO.

@ the heap he claims he already matches an m3.im not really into traffic grand prix to be honest.its childish and means nothing.theres no doubting he will get the 280bhp conversion him and all my golf audi pals are into the modified scene.i tried stating to him vw have no racing pedigree like bmw also that on a track is where it counts and his vw is nothing.they wont have it tho.one thing i do find in there scene they are scared of bmw and rwd.drivers machines dont rock their boat.its all bhp 0to60 times that count.

But it's a Golf, a boys car, the sort of turd you drive until you can afford and are man enough to handle a proper car, like a BMW .

There is a good reason why Golfscum spend thousands molesting and 'improving' their sorry trams and that is that the turds are rather ordinary and crap :)

Ah, more power than the mk4 and a box with lightning shifts!

Not been up against a mk5 but book time is over a second less than the E46 M3 and the golf has 90bhp less and is a fat bloater at 1590kg compared to the E46 M3's 1490kg.

The golf will also have a propensity to understeer like a mofo compared to the M3.

Your mate is full of shit basically.

Sounds like my mate with the R32.

He used to have a mk3 VR6 and i had at the time and still have my tech 2 sport and there was nothing in it in a straight line but would lose him when it got twisty.

The banter/debating/hating was epic for years!

The Mk5 R32 is a really nice grown up hot hatch. It's well made and sounds really good, but it's not really a competitor of M3, so you wouldn't expect to be as fast. I do remember from period magazines that it was only marinally quicker around a track than the 2.0 GTIi.

the m3 is the better car by a long way but those r32's are very quick from 40-70 with the dsg don't reckon there would be much in it at those speeds which is presumably what the op is on about. I hate that quattro crap myself but they are rapid in the mid range.

The M3 is a lot faster car then the R32. Just look up the 0 to100 times , M3 about 11.5 sec R32 about 15.5 and above that it would pull away even more. The m3 is in a different League,

Some hero in a W plate GTi tried it on at the lights with the mighty Compact last week. I felt it necessary to dicipline the fool. 115bhp against 143 bhp of M42 gristle = epic dub fail.
