I drove from London to Coventry in my 86' 325i Cabby.
At 75 miles per hour (speedo) it was at 3000 rpm (speedo) and achieving 28.2 miles per gallon (OBC)
Does this seem normal?
Does this seem about right...?

you should have a 3.64 diff fitted so it could be worse or maybe you have a 3.73 or worse still a 3.91

I think if it was standard it would be a 3.91, for better mpg you would need a 3.64

It is a standard car, can anyone confirm this...popey7676 wrote:I think if it was standard it would be a 3.91, for better mpg you would need a 3.64
What mileage difference are we talking about and what other benefits are there if I go to the expense of fitting a 3.64 diff?

3:64 diff gives 73mph at 3000rpm.
Bear in mind that niether speedo or rev counter will be 100% accurate.
OP's fiqures seem reasonable to me.

Some varied opinions...
I seemed to think the revs were a bit high and mileage a bit low, but in general it seems there is nothing for me to be concerned about.
Thanks for input

My cabbie....

Has a home-built 2.7 and a 3:64 diff.
I average about 31mpg most summers.
driving style and road type are the biggest factors regarding mpg, lots of short trips in town will see you use more fuel,my usage is mostly long trips on A roads.
