As some will remember, my car was stolen a few years ago. One of the things it suffered from was a forced petrol cap (mine is the locking type as the car has no c/l).
Now I have discovered that the car leaks petrol from the filler cap when brimmed full.
Usually I wouldn't mind not brimming the tank in a car, but because mine has the optional extra boot mounted tank, I get in an extra 15 litres by filling it right up.
So, is it likely that the forcing of the cap while locked has damaged the filler neck, meaning that it will now always leak? (How tightly is the cap supposed to fit?) Or is it a simple case of a new o ring in the cap?
Petrol cap or filler neck faulty?

I'd try a new o-ring. Also have a good poke at the filler pipe, remove the rubber body seal behind the flap and give the filler pipe a good look at checking for holes. Also check the hose below and the condition of the hose clips. Best of luck!

Ordered a new O ring today. Thankfully I had already stripped out my filler neck and breathers and tidied it all up last year.... No rust or problems there.
If the Y shaped filler has been damaged preventing the cap from sealing I'll be annoyed !
