M50 temp sender

For the e30 temp gauge to work I've been reading that you have to snip wires on the m50 plug as it works for both the ecu and gauge. Is this the same for all m50's as mine has a blue temp sender and a black one. Do I just have to remove the black sender and put my m20 brown one in its place and connect the black plug back on?

Swap black sender for brown E30 sender and your done
