Valve in heater hose pipes

Going to be be fitting m50 soon and was just wonder what this part does and if its needed when doing the conversion. It's like a valve/thermostat in one of the m50 coolant pipes going to the heater matrix

appears to be an e36 heater control valve these are in the engine bay on the e36 unlike under dash on e30 . throw in the bin ;)

As said throw it in the bin.

Or chuck it on eBay as they clog up with shit and stop working causing you not to have heaters.
