Anyone know what the best way is to get the rev counter on a v8 converted e30 working properly? At the moment its apparantly reving to about 9500rpm

Wouldn't a 4-pot coding plug work? Maybe with a simple divider circuit (to divide by 2) in the connection between the engine and the clocks.

whats the feed for the e30 clocks? does it just come off the negative side of the coil or out of the ecu?
(can't remember without looking it up)

I think on most E30s, it normally comes direct from the ECU, however, he has a V8 fitted, so it will depend on which engine management system he has in place.

True, just wondering if you could use the diode trick and pick up of the negative side of 4 of the coils and feed that back to the ecu. Quick and dirty but it works and it works well.

And what was the car originally, or what coding plug does it have in the instruments cluster - four or six-pot?

Dakota Digital is a name that I remember from a few years back. It's an American thing, but there was a couple UK stockists at the time.
It was used to convert the signal from an 8 cyl to run a 4 cyl rev counter.
