Probably the cheapest/easiest to source V8 they could get in Poland, but I agree, the 3L 218hp V8 is a little pointless.

Probably because if you buy a 3l car its more likely to be a manual, thus fit what you have and mate it up to a 4.4 once the 3l lump dies from nikasil death.
Alright its not the biggest v8 lump but it will still give better performance than an m30 (better torque curve and less consumption) and any other bigger v8 will go straight in the hole once you get bored or have the cash for a second donor.
It is cheaper to start with a manual donor and source a bigger v8 later than it is to start with an auto donor and get all the bits to go manual later (~£500-700)
