I got the sony for the exact same reason, fits in with the other lights quite well in my opinion.

I hate the orange. Wish it was all dull blue like my plasmas. Sony looks a decent match though, same with the becker

Trouble is the becker is £350+ compared to the £50 for the Sony.

Old skool pioneer stuff matches well.

But the Becker looks factory and (imo) suits the dash layout pretty damn well! The Sony still looks aftermarket but the bit of orange light does help it's case.

why do you drive, well not drive, a 20 year old e30 and not a e46 or e36 or newer car ?

well have you heard any/all of these old blaupunkts ? /period stereos ? people say they are decent quality sound, coupled with some decent speakers and all set up properly, theres no reason it wouldnt sound good, and if it doesnt its nothing lost, its not just "look" its everything, look, quality, style

and ...do you think these current stereos will be around/wanted in 20 or 30 years ? no coz they are all made in china and not built to last, lots of jazzy features but probably not built to half the standard of the older stuff, like most stuff these days

Engine is still on the floor mate, Hopefully it will start ok when its back in but thats months away :(

I have a Blaupunkt MP66 in my e46 with a external hard drive fitted, Before that it was in my e36 m3, Great radio never let me down, But as for looks i dont think it would suit a E30, Especially with a silver surround.

I've been looking into high end 80's equipment lately for my jetta, does anyone have any experience with the Alpine gear, 7390m etc? I want to experience what a dog danglies top of the pile sound system sounded like in the 80's!

I listen to loads of 80's and electronic music anyway so it's bound to sound 'right' isn't it?

I've got a Memphis aswell but to be honest, I think they look weirdly out of place when fitted. The outer edge just seems to bulky and it sits out to 'proud'

ive got a couple of 80s ghetto blasters, still sound great now some 25/30 years later, and whats more older music on them and the overall sound, sounds "right" , its fitting and that gives a better music expirience

remember when i picked up my escort i had, had the original 1985 am/mw radio in it, no tape and not even FM , we put it on the drive home on the radio some 80s song came on, it was brilliant ! 10 times better than if the exact same song was being played on an ipod with a new stereo

I have actually had an SQR88 Memphis up and running in my E30 for the last two years coupled to BQA80 amp with BMW Hi Fi pack rear speaker and Alpine components up front in the standard foot well location and OEM tweeter pods.

Also have the tape holder with 80's tapes. :)

Sounds great for what is considering there is no sub.

The BQA80 amp is going to be replaced with a BSA 160 and a BQA160 amps and a BEQ S2 equaliser.

Proper period top end Blaupukt audio which would have been knocking on for £3k back in 1989!

the bqa80 is the amp ive got, remember your thread on all and inspired me, ive not heard mine yet/ever set it up, so cant comment on the sound, is it a decent sound and the unit make a good unit ? how much that and the amp of cost back then would it of been one of the best around ?

not got any speakers yet, not sure what way to go at the moment weather some oem premium speakers for the shelf or some other period, or to go focal or something with the oem pioneer square grills over the top, which i have and love the look of on the shelf

I quite like the look of this..

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product ... tAodei4AUA

Apart from the blue 'Source' button, I think it looks relatively fitting to an E30. A bit more modern but still has a good boxy feel. Not too bad on price too..

Your on my wavelength there polsta, your right it is fitting. I love my old cars and I love embracing the era they came from. This kinda thing is what owning these things is all about IMO. People fitting modern styling and accessories to these cars is what has given them a bad/chavvy reputation thanks to max power in the 90's!

Back on track, I can't believe how much some of the 80's cassette head units go for, some of the high end stuff is still going for over 300 sheets!

Cheers Leigh

i wanted a unit that had OEM lighting, I pod connectivity ( to work with my play lists etc and be hidden, the connection cable is rear mounted and sits in the glove box ) have 3 pre outs / cross overs DSP etc
the bonus is that it has BT connectivity and it works very well.

id's prefer it if it had more of matte finish but you cant have it all. the complete install in the e24 is OEM as possible. Amps are hidden and the sub box trimmed in OEM carpet

it has been superseeded by the BT92, and at £160 it a good buy

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/produc ... 16319.html

and in case anyone ask for a pic :D

I've got a Becker/BMW Bavaria C Professional RDS but need to find the separate tuner to go with it.
