With there being a bit of chat on here about the Z3M Coupe and its potential to be a future classic whats the opinions on the Z4M Coupe.

Spotted this today on PH and had no idea that they were this cheap already.

Personally I really like them but have never sat in one never mind driven one.

Looks like a decent bonus is on the cards and I'm mighty tempted to consider replacing the E30 with one.

Awesome chariot, a bit twitchy though but fun enough.

They will never be the classic or attian the cult status that the Z3M coupe has.

They're not very nice. Hard riding, hard work and the 258 bhp 3.0Si Coupe is a much, much better all rounder. Neither were great sellers but the 3.0Si may well be the better long term prospect. BMW GB forced a load of them onto dealers as demos and they were standard no option cars and thus almost impossible to sell. A blue one was the first BMW I sold at a dealership - it was 6 months old, had done 1800 miles and was something like 10 grand under list. A lovely car though, one of the best they made and sadly underrated.

The Z4M has possibly the most atrocious ride of any BMW. Really unpleasant.

How can u be so sure they won't be classic ?

I have had a ride in one. Sounds just like the E46 M3.

Considering this was a £40k plus car new prices have dropped like a stone since even 2 or 3 years old.

I would imagine the handling is more 'sorted' than a Z3 MC but never driven either so don't know. There was a review ages ago somewhere of BMW UK Z3 MC v Z4 MC

Z4 MC looks cool especially rear and side profile.
Very low numbers and the sports 2 seater appeal visually at least make it quite an interesting sight compared to the 1000S of E46 M3s

Z4 MC still looks classy and the business. I hear interior space not so good. But seems a cool car. Meant to be an 'event' to drive compared to M3 (E46 and E92) from what other people have said ....

Could be classic as great engine; manual; nice shape; dedicated sports car 2 seater chassis unlike E46 and E92 .... :-)

Oh has CSL steering rack and brakes and more sharper suspension set up than Z4 MR

I didnt say they woundn't be a classic, i said they wouldn't be the classic or attain the cult status that the Z3M coupe has.

Fact of the matter is that when the Z3M was lauched, it was so off the wall with its bread van love/hate looks and was/is a hoot to drive with its E30 derived semi trailing arm rear suspension.

The Z4M as good as it is, was a little predictable.

The Z4 coupes are amazing looking cars with there long bonnets. I was going to buy one but decided not to as it was a bit impracticable as a daily.. I drove a z4 roadster for a few days and i couldn't fault it, the interior was a bit small as the clocks and dash looked tiny. But the new Z4 out looks 100 times better and hopefully the coupe version should be along shortly.

i owned a z4 3.0 and a z4m...the difference was staggering. the z4 3.0 is a proper roadster with a smooth engine and drives well and handles well...the z4m feels like it's gonna rip your head off! loved the sound of the engine note when you rev it and felt really tight all round, although twitchy as someone already mentioned. drive with caution! i know people hate paddleshifts, but the 3.0 had one which was nice, you pull with your fingers to go up a gear, but push with your thumb to go down...hard to explain but way better controls than on the e46 M3. dont know if they used it again but i thought it worked well....the m is manual of course. dont know about classic status, the z3m is always going to be quirky (i dont like it, but never sat in one).

Yes so u meant 'wont be a classic' if u read your first sentence again ;-)

Is funny that the Z4M with its 'more predictable' handling so presumably less likely to oversteer so in general faster is less reverred in the sense u would think drivers would prefer a car with better handling over one that goes sideways all the time so harder to put the power down all the time.

Interesting they use same engine but Z3 MC has 5 gears and 325bhp and Z4 MC has 6 gears and 343bhp

For what is worth I think there both cool cars over the obvious M3

I hope they build a Z4 Coupe with E92's V8!

NO, i meant what i WROTE!

I said they wouldn't be THE (NOT A) classic or attain the cult status that the Z3M coupe has!

If i meant its wasnt going to be a classic at all i would have said IT WONT BE A CLASSIC.

Late Z3M's from late 2000 have the E46 S54 engine. Officially detuned down from 343bhp to 325bhp but peak power is at 7400 not 7900.

I think was so would not take the shine of the then new E46 M3 so detuned.

Though officially they couldn't fit a 6 speed gearbox was one of the reasons. The Munich Legends Estoril Blue Z3 M Coupe (S54B32) looks like SEX ON LEGS!!!!

Z4 M Coupe in my opinion looks superb in Interlagos Blue.

Getting a bit technical here but I thought u meant OR which includes either conditions or both .... Venn diagram theory

I didn't see the THE. But this can apply to any car as all models are unique.

It was because the S50 had ceased production and the 5 speed was already near the limit of how much torque, power and rpm it could take hence the limiting of power.

The 6 speed box fits perfectly. It was all down to production cost and Getrag not being able to make enough 420G boxes so I'm told.

Is the 420G same as E46 M3 gearbox ?

I was too impatient to wait until Saturday, so collected it on Friday afternoon and have been increasing my carbon footprint ever since.

I'm not sure it's a car for this forum, so let's see if it gets positive or negative reactions:

This one's a GranSport. I used to have a 3200GT - great rush from the twin turbos, but this is a much better car all round.

Funnily enough, I've recently registered on the Sports Maserati forum since I'm considering replacing my M5 with either a late 4200 or Gransport. Nice find in a great colour

Plenty of great advice on that site for owners & prospective purchasers. I've been a member since it started.
