basically the fuel pump is on its way out most likely, it failed to start last week early morning and again today i removed the cover gave it a bit of a tap, its the original 1.6 pump but engine is now 2.5 if theres a difference?
but yeah i got it going, on the way home it started sort of lurching intermittently,
im broke so i cant buy a pump until end of jan, just looking for tips if the pump decides to fail what exactly can i do to get it going?
can the pump fail mid driving or is it usually non starting issues?

1.6 pump assembly is different from a 2.5 pump assembly in a saloon, but that's because they use different tanks. Assuming the original 1.6 fuel tank is still fitted, the pump is fine (if in working order)
Pump can and will stop at any time, cranking or driving, and the frequency of its failure will increase.
No scrap yards near you? Last pump I bought cost me £5, and I didn't even have to do most of the work to remove it, since some muppet had already tried to remove it, but didn't have the intelligence to remove the fuel level sender first.
Failing that, leave the rear seat loose, the inspection panel off, and a suitable heavy object handy.

run a 12v live feed with an in-line fuse from the back of your fuel pump relay as that one will stay live while cranking or any direct 12v live feed with an on/off switch and in-line fuse .
worked for me for over a year till i swapped out engines and looms etc
