DME relay

Can any one tell what a DME relay is, and what it does?

Controls the engine ECU.

Are they the same for all m20 engines? Anyone bought one online? If so where from?

Before we start sending bits several thousand miles around the world, can we establish what M20 and more importantly, what year, this car was built. I know from experience on here that some of you 'down under' run some really ancient E30s, with engine electrical systems vastly different from what most of us are used to.
I know that really early cars have a completely different kind of fuel pump relay, and I'm not even sure if these have anything recognisable as a DME relay!
Why are you asking about it? The 'conventional' relay that daimlerman refers to is easily checked by temporarily relacing it with a couple of wire links.
