I have to opportunity to get hold of 25L of fully synthetic Q8 5w 30 oil for £40

Will it go in my poverty spec 320 and my E46 turd with M43 engine (that I don't really care about)

I've read through the oil thread and it blinded me with science.

Simple yes and no's would be great.

Yes,

It will go in both.

May not be ideal but it will work - what spec oil do the cars manuals call for?

it will probably be ok in the e46, but i would have thought it would be way too thin for an m20. 5w30 is normally only for modern close tollerance multivalve stuff.
cheers,

Cheers mate that was my take on it as well. Just nice to get a second opinion.

The bargain hunter in me got a bit exited.

5W-30 is a grade specified for E30s by BMW - for temperatures below freezing and colder.
It's a bit thin for UK temperatures, but it'll be OK for any normal driving.
