Hi guys i've just spent the last 18 months getting my Stannard sport to a standard that i'm happy with but now its done i'm bored
I've spent so much time cleaning it and getting it to a good standard that i'm now worried about using it especially at this time of year.
I have a company car so it was only planned to be used on weekends but even if it's raining i don't use it?!
I'm just beginning to think should i get something newer like an e46 M3 to use so i don't have to worry about getting salt on it and just enjoy driving it or get another project to mess about with as i have enjoyed doing the car up.
What are your thoughts is there anyone else in the same boat?
Cheers

If I was to do it all again I would have started with an e46 m3.
While I love my e30 it has consumed a disgusting amount of money and will only ever be seen by most as an old car.
Never had so much fun in a road car than an m3 I took out on a test drive. Fast, comfortable and more capable than an e30 could dream of being.

Same thing happened to me when I finished my sport, I ended up chewing my gums like a crack addict with boredom.
I then bought my E30 M3 and it all started again but the boredom soon worn off and they now sit in the garage as ornaments.
The last time my sport turned a wheel was July and the M3 was August, shame really

Thats what i'm starting to think. I've owned six m3's and a z3 m coupe but cause i've got the company car i thought i'd get another e30 cause i love the styling and i wouldn't cost me too much.....

It's a hobby at the end of the day and i love driving but i just want something to use and not worry about it too much.

What little free time I have is spent on the e30. I love it
If it ever gets finished I would like another project to keep me busy.
Saab 900 turbo, merc cosworth or if I get my pennys together an e30 m3.
A e46 m3 is a fantastic car but I would never get the same satisfaction out of its ownership

but why not just use it and enjoy it and do what it was made for ? to be driven, think about it like this... if it was a brand new car youd bought or one 3 or 4 years old and in same condition- would you not drive it ? or just make sure you get out in it in all nice weather and enjoy it and be thankful you have a company car and you dont have to use it in bad weather , interested myself in how i feel when mines done, i think for once il be happy and just enjoy not having a car thats a project/needs things doing (although like above theres always more to do/can be done to improve) , but just glad theres not a big to do list of rust, paint, big parts, etc

I agree with what your saying polsta and generally i just clean and make sure my cars want for nothing but with this one its different. I don't know why but cause i've spent so much time doing it up i don't want anything going wrong?!
Must be losing the plot!

Me too, my 24V E30 is all but done bar the carpets/interior/stereo system (I have all the bits) the car is MOT'd and SORN currently, but as usual my mind has been terribly distracted into messing about with what should be a breaker and attempting to build a budget track-hack
I think this is a terrible illness I have and I am terminally sick.
If we have better weather this year I have an epic garden project to be getting on with but I doubt I will have more than a handful of weekends knowing what last year was like
I would rebuild my kitchen extension and re-fit a new kitchen but I don't have the money for that one

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Yup finished my project after a few years, twiddled my thumbs for a while then got a e46ti as well that needed a few bits doing so kept me busy for a while and guess what, yep twiddling my thumbs again so i'm thinking of a audi tt as my next toy after selling one of if not both beemers and just keep one car as they hardly get driven anyway.

I think my E30 has done about 600 miles this year
I know what you mean about not using it in the rain - no fookin way I'm going through the palaver of pulling the carpet out again to get it welded up - dry use only from now on and garaged all year round.

Drive it, rag it you'll like it more then. Maybe not in salt as it kills off shiney nuts and bolts underneath!

I think thats the problem i've spent too much time on it. I always look after my cars and they want for nothing but for some reason i'm too fussy with it. Simon god knows how i'd get on with your c2 once its done! Perhaps its time to move it on and get something more modern.....

Finding the time to enjoy the car is the hard part.
