Most CSLs have had plenty of action. Due to a few dealers and owners talking them up the prices are now stupid. As a result pigs are being tonced up to hide their ugly past and served to fools who have been convinced that they are buying an appreciating icon. The CSL may be a serious car but it is no Sport Evolution.

Rod bolts ?
I'll give you the boot floor cracking but head gaskets only really happen on cars that tight Coonts have run on 95 RON for long periods and rod bolts only effected the very first cars and were all recalled.

A friend of mine who is a tech at BMW park lane worked on one with 201000 miles not long ago and still had a BMW insured warranty!!

Stuart the service manage at ML also has one with high mileage, 150-170000 If I remember right.

I would say the CSL is a more focused and serious car than a sport evo but it lacks the racing heritage.

Holy beep nice to know they can do 200k miles :-)

Did that engine have plenty of life left ? What condition was the engine in ? Was it just maintained at BMW recommended service intervals or over and above this :-) ?

Btw Stuart ML's M3 has had a head gasket job done I think but I think he uses his a lot on track.

I am a bit of a lurker on CSL Register but I know that a a few have had brand new engines pur in under warranty

One guy has also had 'rust' under the black plastic covers on the doors.

I cannot believe the M3 CSL is nearly 10 years old.

Pacer wrt to ur comment about Sport Evos / M3 CSLs u cannot say a CSL will not appreciate as if u knew Sport Evos would surely u would have kept them.
Personally unless u got something like a Macca F1 99% of cars are going to depreciate .... Some just depreciate less than others ATM like the CSL or experience some appreciation

But I would be very interested to hear ur stories about what a stock sorted well maintained completely OEM M3 Sport Evolution is like to drive and a 325i Sport for comparison sake :-) ?

CSLs are just as prone to boot floors, rust under black plastic cover as any other E46 Coupe.

Even my 323 had the boot floor done under 'goodwill'

You dont need to tell me that Soni.

The worst E46 boot floor i have seen was on a pre facelift 318i Saloon.

I know. We were on a wind up.

A mate is painting a grey CSL now, a car with 140k and a lot of track action. Not a bad car by all accounts and very healthy.
Another mate has a black one with 6000 miles from new. It's is literally as new. If any CSL will be a 100 grand car, that'll be the first.
I'd swerve these and the CS, and have a mint early one in Phoenix yellow in Laguna Seca. They were (are) a lovely thing when not Gutterz'd up.
The poor old E36 seems to have been forgotten. There's a lovely Individual 4 door near me in a metallic copper colour, really pretty car with the Contours.

I also agree and think Pheonix Yellow Metallic Paint looks good as does Oxford Green Metallic Paint. The CS only Interlagos Blue Metallic Paint is my favourite but alas I couldn't find what I wanted in that colour.
I agree a early E46 M3 Coupe Y reg or if u are lucky X reg in PY/Manual on 18s is the stuff dreams are made of .... Takes me right back to 2000/2001. I got a BMW poster frames of one.

The poster is of this ....

Thats been beasted then if its happened by 30k.

Carbon or saphire black with laguna secca leather is not an individual combination either but a great combo either way.

Not today i've been working :( make up for lost time this week.

I've just read on the 5 forum the other B10 i was after in diamond black is now being broken due to being a bit of a pig. But its the same colour and has sport bumpers etc.

Might get some bits off it, like boot lid and early style wing mirrors.

Rear bumper looks good on this i think

As Barry said, mirrors are LHD / RHD specific also the wiring and plugs differ if the car has memory etc. Why do you want to change the mirrors ? :?

Thought i'd up date for those interested, the car as of late hadn't been running too well and was getting progressively worse, feeling a bit flat, poor economy - more on that later and a generally hesistant under any acceleration espcially on the motorway.

From reading and thinking i came to conclusion the MAF was a possible candidate. Now some research showed the bi turbo uses a MAF from a e34 3.6 M5. Its a proper maf no air flow flap here. Googling the bosch part no. revealed its also fitted to audi 20V quattros and more famously the porka 968 V8's

Prices are in the region of £1200 from BMW, no thanks. Porsche charge a similar amount Euro's, GSF can't get it. Which left some head scratching. Then a brain wave, Charlie at surrey RR has a bi turbo in bits. He also lives in Camberley, so i rang and asked if i could borrow his MAF fit it and see if runs any better. He said yes but its at Phil Crouch's garage which is about 35miles away.

Image

Then the snow came, alot too! Car didn't move but then i had to take it to Phil's. Car ran like sh!te all the way up there. Got there tried a spare MAF we both drove it. Much better! So some relief. Then Phil has a secrect machine cleaner type thing. See if that helps my one, it will shift all the dirt oil etc on the MAF element which is what builds up and gives false readings to the ECU and this is what can throw the fueling out.

I have no picture but it cleaned up a treat, re fitted my MAF and went for a spin. Warp drive has resumed! best its ever driven now imo. Just gets up and goes any gear and boost pressure. Its still boosting the correct levels which is a good sign for the turbos still

He said leave it a few days, but its alot better ever since. So we've used it a bit more as of late since the snow went. Phil reckoned it pulls like a bi turbo should and hes worked on more than most will ever know. Nice when those in the know think its proper still.

Image

This won't happen very often so i thought i'd take a picture of all £154 to fill it with super 8O

More to the point the fact it emptied it in less than 400 miles was scary. Not even driving it hard. Seems to be about 18MPG if that. OBC states 32mpg!!! My B3 will do 400 miles to a tank on 60 litres!

Thats not right i feel, so led me to think about replacing the lambda sensor as a sign of poor economy is O2 going haywire.

Image

I've changed that for a new one, uses a standard 535i one, handy. For the money it costs if it does improve a few MPG it will soon pay for itself! even if it manages 20-22 or so it will drastically improve the range! Plus the old one looked original and its covered 120,000 miles now.

So just got to drive it and see, be nice to get it on the dyno again see if the fueling has improved.

/\ whats this i hear you cry?! Well its the rarest of morsels for an e34. A complete heated REAR seats retro kit. All 4 elements and loom. Need a pair of heated switches. I have only 1 :(

Epic, also on the loom is the provision for electric head rests. Not sure on that seeing as the fronts are manual, but the passengers could have this, heat their arse and use the door blinds for comfort!

Also Barry our favourite zone man tipped me off on a genuine PDC e34 retro kit which i've bought. Along with a dimming rear view mirror will spec it upto the nines......or should i not bother?!

Seeing as the car according to some zoners think its in the "wrong hands" now. Cheers Demlot, Topless you guys after all are the best spanner men on here. :thumb:

I wouldn't bother with the PDC. 8)

If you can't park then you shouldn't have a B10. While its nice to spec it up sometimes its originality that's a winner

Besides from memory the PDC sensors look fugly on an e34

I must admit, I don't see the point in putting all these optional extras on just for the sake of it. I would, however, put decals on this car, and I'm not even a fan of them.
