Right heres my dilema, I want to do a 2.5 conversion, nothing major there I know, I was told the early 325 is a tad quicker than the later, fair enough. Here is the thing, has anyone done a 2.5 conversion using an engine from a 5 series? Is there any difference, there are loads more of them going cheap than a 3 series, we are talking the same year ish as my 1989. Also Automatics, I know the flywheel would have to be changed, but anything else?

Any help as next year I am doing it just torn as I dont want to pay Ԛ£400 for a 3 series when I could get a 5 series for Ԛ£90, you know?

Cheers Mark.

As far as i am aware, the "Later" 2.5's were a bit down on BHP due to a CAT system being fitted, but then, it was only by 1Bhp.

What are you converting from?

The early (pre facelift) 325i engines had higher compression and are supposed to be a bit zippier.

99% certain that a 525i M20 engine is identical to a 325i engine.

Why not just get a 525e motor bin the head and fit your 320i head with a 325i cam/inlet/injectors and a zone 2.7 chip ? instant torque monster
