Did not know where to post this but anyways...

Whats a good torque wrench to buy, obviously torque figures are involved and the wrench presumably needs to be pretty good.

any recommendations, something around the £40 mark

let me know what you think. Don't really have knowledge of this.

Was thinking of the laser 1/4" Precision Torque Wrench for £39.99

Cheers guys,

Depends on what you want to use it for, really!

I'm far too old to understand these French measurements, takes me all my time to sort out metric spanners, but E30 wise, front hubs need to be around 200ft/lb,front caliper bracket bolts 80ft/lb,so that weedy little quarter inch drive thing is going to struggle.... :D

I would suggest that a 3/8th drive would be the minimum to go for.

My toolkit has a Williams half inch torque wrench in it that I bought about 30 years ago,and I have been looking at 3/8th drive one's recently, but not yet bought one...hence my interest here to see what others are buying, afterall,we can still ask Santa... :D

Yeah defo. I was only looking into it as its useful in certain situations. engine related etc.

Just waiting to see what people have. was looking as reviews on the screfix website, the Laser ones seem alright.

Might just ebay the Laser 3/8th which is only £30.44 with free postage.

Apart from cylinder heads, most things you need to concern yourself about torquing up will be 1/2" drive applications. Even then you can use a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter.

E30 front hubs are 300Nm, so if you wanna do those, you need one that goes up to 300. Generally, the higher the top rating, the higher the bottom rating, so ideally, a 1/2" and 3/8" work together well.

To get one that goes up to 300, you'd be looking at snapon/blue point, sykes pickavent motorque etc but they're not cheap.

It's all about how tight you wanna go, and how much you wanna spend. As far as I'm aware, apart from M30 engine crank pully bolts, 300Nm is the tightest thing on an E30 (and it's not like E30's came with M30's as standard...)
