Hi guys,

The 120d is giving an EGR fault code. . . . but when warm it's fine. A diesel specialist said the EGR valve is working fine when warm because the carbon deposits are hot enough (thus loose enough) to allow the solenoid to work freely.

People have said the EGR is easy to remove. Are they talking about a pre-2007 engine? As this one looks a right nightmare. Have given it a go, but there's coolant involved and all sorts of piping. It's a bloody big unit too, nothing like the small units i've seen online.

Any help appreciated!

Think i've sussed it now. I have to remove the top section - away from the rest - which is going to be a crap job because it's a flange, where two different metals are connected. Mallet time I think!

Sorry i've only just replied. The EGR (no 3) is held on by a couple of hex bolts (no 8 ) and should come off easy enough.

Cheers Barry. Removed those nuts, but the thing wouldn't budge and then it started to p*** it down with rain so going to have another go tomorrow.

Run the engine and get it nice and hot first.

Hi Barry,

The 120d is going to be sold in the coming weeks and this bloody EGR problem still hasn't been sorted. I've got exams and uni work way above my head and my Dad just wants to get it sorted ASAP and has had a quote from Vines of £278 to remove, replace and fit a new EGR valve. However they want an additional £79 just to confirm it's definitely the EGR code, or else they'll just take our word for it. All this seems rather pricey, what are your thoughts? Is this something you're able to do? If so, what sort of price would you be looking at? Would much rather give you the work than Vines.

Cheers
