it's really not worth finding out, on paper it will so that would be enough for me,DanThe wrote:I expect it will still toast a 46 turd with a slipping clutch and half boost
a grands worth of clutch is the tip of the iceberg if the M30 chucks a leg out of bed while serving a 46'

Not that any of this matters but to quell the '46 bashers, the 0-60 time is quicker for the M3 and the 0-100 is the same so I don't know where you are getting your paper figures from.e30topless wrote:it's really not worth finding out, on paper it will so that would be enough for me,DanThe wrote:I expect it will still toast a 46 turd with a slipping clutch and half boost

A healthy E46 M3 manual coupe certainly feels quicker than Simons BT after driving it on low and high boost.
Maybe it will be better when it's got it's missing 20 odd Shetlands back and a clutch but I doubt it.

That's the plan, assuming you return the DVD that I got off Soni
DVD? You mean the one Soni made of the peado posse to black mail you for ///M branded merchandise?pacerpete wrote:bss325i wrote:You, topless and the fiddler in a caravan again with barebackinteracial/youngboys.com on the laptop?pacerpete wrote:Roll on Pod 2013 , it's going to be a 'knucklefest'

So i've read an e28 m30 flywheel is single mass and can be used, or a 3.6 m5 one. I guess you use the release bearings for these also.
Anyhow no brickwork today, nor tomorrow it looks.
Wasn't too cold for tinkering, well it was, i'm frozen.
Thought i'd have a go and rummage for this exhaust blow. I guess it would be easy normally, but 2 turbos together with about a million joins and heat sheilds is presenting an altogether more difficult challenge. I ran the engine up before i started a) to keep me warmish b) nuts and bolts come undone and tighten much easier with some heat in them
Minus point was a few burnt fingers

It sounded like it was coming from the front turbo, so i'm my wisdom i thought i'll remove the air box............
You can't see the front turbo from underneath or from the the top.

Then the stainless heat sheild off, which burnt me a bit! Then fit the airbox back on a run it. Which is what happened. Its not blowing on the front
I guess the sheild was throwing the sound about! So i thought great, a bit more room on the rear turbo and i can see it from underneath.
Not before removing another big undertray first, then another smaller heat sheild

This bolt was loose on the rear turbo, tightened it and nipped the others. Seemed too easy started it up, still blowing but from elsewhere!

Theres 4 of these 10mm copper nuts, it was blowing here from the top corner, i could feel it.

Top nut didnt have a washer like the other 3, and was loose. 2 others were a bit loose so i nipped them up a touch. Fitted a washer and put the nut back on.
Fired it up, still blowing from somewhere else
It was gone 4 and dark and the temps dropped below zero again so i called it a day. I was a bit p!ssed my efforts of the last 2 hours where in vain! It seems to sound like its still on the rear to me.
Its obviously had more than one blow and it didn't sound too bad driving along before, now i've sorted 2 of them, its really obviously blowing now but sounds just like the 1 blow now. Its going to be foggy and too cold to work tomorrow so i shall wrap up and have another attack. The super car is making me work for it.

Good on you for making the effort today,I just put in a power point for the outside Chrimbo lights
and hung up a lighted Santa and Sliegh! More lights to add tomorrow if my pinkies have thawed out.
Youth is wasted on the young.
Now, I'm sure you all know I hate the E34.... but, I could be tempted by one of these, especially with the Alpina leather!:)

Moving onto the front turbo, there were more loose ones same places as on rear turbo
Theres not alot of room,

Or f**k all and this one really was hand tight. I'm suspicious someone has been here all before as there are 12mm nuts on the exchuast manifolds and 10mm ones. The down pipes are odd, front turbo has 12mm's and the rear 15's Strange if you ask me. I know birds have been here before though from receipts
Theres still a slight blow, but i can't get to anymore bolts without taking the bloody car apart. Its alot alot better but not perfect, nearly gone when engine is warm.
I mean i can see it going an ugly way! Turbos off, the exhaust manifold gaskets are a bit past it. All new gaskets, clean up. I guess you get the turbos overhauled while its all in bits. Gets rid of the blow and its all pimp again in this area.
At this milege i was always going to be the one doing turbo fettling and the clutch!

Loads more aggro when the crossmember bolts snap...Andyboy wrote:Would it be easier to support the engine with a brace and drop the front crossmember? Loads more room.
If simon can get a 13.5 then he is doing well.bss325i wrote:Not that any of this matters but to quell the '46 bashers, the 0-60 time is quicker for the M3 and the 0-100 is the same so I don't know where you are getting your paper figures from.e30topless wrote:it's really not worth finding out, on paper it will so that would be enough for me,DanThe wrote:I expect it will still toast a 46 turd with a slipping clutch and half boost

thing is Pony if you want to get Brutal, a Bi turbo is a 110% alpina classic. The hand built super saloon no ones heard of. Its the big one everyone wants in their top ultimate bmw peado list they're that good. 507 made, alot written off, alot stashed away. not many in circulation and highly highly prized by their owners. Guy had my one 9 years and thats not un common.
20,000 e46 rhd m3's came over? They're only going one way sadly no matter how good they are, and they are. A Bi turbo will always be worth what you paid for it. Your CS has dropped 10 quid in the time i typed this post.
Why did you sh!t the bed on Weds? i spent 4 hours getting this thing sorted and you didn't turn up for you unresponsive turbo lagged ride as you claim.

Hi yes I was just having a laugh I did not mean any harm. Yes is a classic as u say. Though I have not heard of this particular model till u mentioned. Yes the E46 M3 is good car values will probably go down but I got one because I have always wanted one since 2000 when I read the original Autocar road test and wet myselfSimon13 wrote:thing is Pony if you want to get Brutal, a Bi turbo is a 110% alpina classic.
