Now, I'm still scratching my head on this because.. if you incorrectly timed the cam, you would surely cause the same damage on all cylinders! No?

I've finally had a reply from Schrick via automac. And guess what?? they say theres nothing wrong with it and i caused the damage. Using the wrong hole. I was disputing that!! Its THEIR hole which is wrong I guess they think the lobes have been machined correctly and f**k the timing holes on the end of the camshaft. I didn't send it back as we know to dispute the damage on my engine as i caused it of my own accord.

There is something amiss here and i'm getting shafted by a big company now i feel.


They're going to check the cam for damage and advice about cost of repair/replacement

auto mac are exploring options with schrick for a gesture of goodwill. - yeah give me a cam thats correct



I think i'll just ask they post it back and i'll buy a vernier pulley. There is a very good machine shop/ race/road engine builders near me. I've spoken to them and if i take the engine over with all the bits they will "dial" the cam in so its correctly timed and opening at the optimum time. So in theory i'll get the maximum benefit of the cam bar ECU limitations of the standard alpina mapping

yes the valves kissed all the pistons but only one valve dropped which is when the party really started. Bar the slight touch 3 of the pistons are fine

Si, your contract is with Automac. To a large extent what Schrick do is irrelevant. It's up to Automac to sort this out with you.

Do you know what this whole f**king saga is draining and the more i think about it, the more it feels like the whole process is going backwards. Nothing is easy on a cars but i get the feeling this could drag on for some time yet.

I can well believe it. Its not as if this is the only car you are playing with either. I can guess that pursuing it through legal channels would cost a fortune anyway. Perhaps it is better to hand it all over to someone else as you said, wipe your mouth and move on. It's so hard when it's your own car. I saw the car many years ago at Aces and it looked and sounded fantastic. At this stage it may well as if it is going back wards but you really shouldn't underestimate how far you've come and how well you coped with the challenges you've faced. It would have been easy to put a match to it.

if you consider and honestly believe that at the end of the day you'll end up with a world class c2 (engine included) then all that has happened is just a necessary part of the process, valve and piston meetings included.

therefore there's no need to be toooo down about it all, it's just grief that you've been through and don't have to go through again.

So the bronzit is gone which means 2 important things. I've only 1 e30 for the first time in 7-8 years! even more important is its a non driving one and i still like driving e30's. Plus i have some money in my pocket again. Down to 3 cars! well 3 alpinas

A mate of mine bought a clean R plate 2.8 in that vile light metallic blue but with black leathers for a grand. It's a nice one too with sensible miles. They're good cars but they're old and Z4's are down to 4 bags now.
