Its THEIR hole which is wrongI guess they think the lobes have been machined correctly and f**k the timing holes on the end of the camshaft. I didn't send it back as we know to dispute the damage on my engine as i caused it of my own accord.
There is something amiss here and i'm getting shafted by a big company now i feel.
They're going to check the cam for damage and advice about cost of repair/replacement![]()
auto mac are exploring options with schrick for a gesture of goodwill. - yeah give me a cam thats correct
I think i'll just ask they post it back and i'll buy a vernier pulley. There is a very good machine shop/ race/road engine builders near me. I've spoken to them and if i take the engine over with all the bits they will "dial" the cam in so its correctly timed and opening at the optimum time. So in theory i'll get the maximum benefit of the cam bar ECU limitations of the standard alpina mapping
I'm a tad p!ssed
Looks to me like our friend expects you to bend over and lube up...those lobes WILL hurt....

yes the valves kissed all the pistons but only one valve dropped which is when the party really started. Bar the slight touch 3 of the pistons are fineRodderz wrote:Now, I'm still scratching my head on this because.. if you incorrectly timed the cam, you would surely cause the same damage on all cylinders! No?

That's what I wrote earlier. The legal process starts with the retailer. If the cam had a defect -

I wish you all the luck in sorting this out, and, if it helps, here's some actual legal stuff to chew but it hopefully wont come down to having to pursue it in that way.
The law is a bit screwed up in this area as it protects big business.
The legal precedent was set by this case - Daniels and Daniels v. R. White & Sons Ltd. and Tarbard - when a family drank R. Whites lemonade - contaminated with acid! - that was bought from a retailer - but the retailer got sued!! It was said that R. Whites had taken 'all reasonable precautions' and that the retailer should be selling items of 'merchantable quality'. Totally immoral outcome!
Liability for defective products

Do you know what this whole f**king saga is draining and the more i think about it, the more it feels like the whole process is going backwards. Nothing is easy on a cars but i get the feeling this could drag on for some time yet.
I'll be on the phone monday

I can well believe it. Its not as if this is the only car you are playing with either. I can guess that pursuing it through legal channels would cost a fortune anyway. Perhaps it is better to hand it all over to someone else as you said, wipe your mouth and move on. It's so hard when it's your own car. I saw the car many years ago at Aces and it looked and sounded fantastic. At this stage it may well as if it is going back wards but you really shouldn't underestimate how far you've come and how well you coped with the challenges you've faced. It would have been easy to put a match to it.
I'll do you a nice set of gaiters with Alpina coloured stitching at cost price to cheer you up if you'd like?

What about one of these no win, no fee solicitors? As long as they get paid by the other party of course, you don't want them taking a chunk of your winnings.toby wrote:I can guess that pursuing it through legal channels would cost a fortune anyway. Currently slumming it in an E46 Touring

Was good to see you at Pete's Si, I hope you didnt change your mind and get some updates posted up soon.
See ya at Gaydon.
See ya at Gaydon.
if you consider and honestly believe that at the end of the day you'll end up with a world class c2 (engine included) then all that has happened is just a necessary part of the process, valve and piston meetings included.
therefore there's no need to be toooo down about it all, it's just grief that you've been through and don't have to go through again.
chin up old boy!
nice ice choices...

indeed this is on the drive now

So C2 has a big brother in the same colour!
Anyhow this went today to its new owner.................

So the bronzit is gone which means 2 important things. I've only 1 e30 for the first time in 7-8 years! even more important is its a non driving one and i still like driving e30's. Plus i have some money in my pocket again. Down to 3 cars! well 3 alpinas
Its getting time after another year to get back on the wagon and get this running with an MOT next year. I almost believe myself now...........................
My brother in law has put a nice big chip on the bonnet yesterday which is making my p!ss boil. Seeing as it had the mother of bodywork paint jobs
I think i'm going to have a serious look at whats in the garage and what i can sell. No one needs 4 sets of H&R springs for example way too many spare parts.

I however feel that I need five M42 cylinder heads and four M50 2.5 manifolds in my life. I did sell a mani 4 weeks ago as I felt five was just showing off. Only keep a) what you need and b)what's going to be worth really good money in years to come. No E36 scrap then.
Pisser about the bonnet.
Can't believe the number of cars in the photo!

It is a nice spec and a manual 2.8. Not Apollo 11 mileage either. Surprised it's still about. I'd wait till the spring now si. Your completely wasting effort trying now I recon.
I could always put the missus in it next summer? Mmmmm theres a thought....
