Will post some pictures up tomorrow if i get a chance.

Bought a nice dark Grey 325, on alpina rims, looks really nice for what it is :D

We're using it as a ring car, with the next trip over being in april, so need to get some decent suspension on it before then.

So much fun to drive, arse end is even easier to get out of line than a cossie, mind you got producer on the maiden voyage though, didnt even make it home from buying it without getting stopped, LOL

Everyone should have one lmao

Oh, here are a couple of the ebay pics to give a taster till i get some decent ones, apologies for quality:

they look the real deal to me, but it look like 205 width tyres on 8js on the back. This will be to stop the rubbing u get with 225's on them when it's drop 60mm! As i have found out

TBH ive not seen it in daylight yet, so no idea on tyre size, but it doesnt rub at all at the back, so possibly is 205, doesnt really seem to hurt the handling that way if thats what they are.
Would explain why the speedo overreads so much though!

We paid 1800 for it in the end, which is hardly a bargain, but we couldnt be bothered hunting for ages and ages so bought the first half decent one that came up somewhere near the right money

yes it was on ebay very recently

i'll put money on it those tyres on the rear are 205! theres just not enough room when they are that low for 225's. Well not on my car!

A free cadburys cream egg goes out for guessing the tyre size correctly.

They are indeed 205 width on the back.

Ive nearly finished donutting them to nothing now thuogh, so will put some wider ones on now

Not sure what route to go yet for more power.

Not really after silly power as you dont need it at the ring, well you might but i dont cause im not good enough, LOL

250-300 or so would be enough, ive done the ring in a car with 350bhp and TBH i was rarely using it, and anyway im not bothered by laptimes im just there to enjoy the corners.

Current options being considered are:
M62 + ERL MF2 and get a chip blow with a few degrees less ignition advance
M62 + AEM management
T3 turbo + AEM management
Engine swap for something better in the first place

Main reasons for those options is that other than the M62, i have all those things in stock doing nothing anyway!

I would actually quite like to use a 4 cylinder engine with about 280bhp, as removing the weight off the front end would be useful i reckon.

For this year though not going to do much as got a few other projects on the go that are more pressing, so just going to sort the suspension and brakes out to be good enough for now and live with the abysmal straightline performance.

Ring not a power circuit? whoever told you that!? :P
Nah only if you want laptimes, you need it for Kottonborn, Kesselchen (the climb up the hill) and the long straight. But for tourist driving, the funs in the bends like you say. :drive:

Robin

Im not saying its not a power circuit, im just saying i dont know it well enough, or care enough about lap times for extra power to really make it more enjoyable for me.

Saying that though, ive only ever done it in a sierra with 350bhp, so it might have seemed to me like i wasnt bothered about having the power then, but when suddenly i have HALF the power in a heavier car, it might turn out that the power was more useful than i realised!

Either way, doing it a few dozen times next year (im going there for probably 5 days and 3 days next year) in an underpowered car is only going to help me learn the corners, ive always found that big power cars have a tendancy to stop you learning the road properly cause it doesnt matter on exit speeds so much if you can just pile 50mph extra speed on in a few seconds!

Well I've had fun there in a 50bhp car, almost any car is fun around there! 8)
And like you say, you'll probably learn it better.

Lots of the locals use the likes of golf gtis and battered e30's - cheap, fun and it doesnt matter so much if you prang it.
You only really need the power when you get bored of the climb up the hill.
Cheers,
Robin

Yeah i know ive been a few times now mate.

And every time been done through on the twistier sections by a local in a car with about 1/3 of the power of what i was driving.

I almost felt embarassed to blast past them on the straights cause i knew full well they were far quicker than me everywhere that mattered but with all that power under my right foot it would be silly not to use it, but it just meant they then overtook me all over again on the next twisty bit, LOL

Second gear foot to the floor totally sideways round the first of the two carousells in a 350bhp RWD cossie is defiantely something ANYONE would enjoy though, SO much sideways and so easy to control cause of the banking, makes even a very below average drifter like myself look like a god, LOL

Best bet is to try an follow the locals through the bends. Or better still grab some passenger laps - had one a while back with a local who'd done over 450 laps that year in his 968cs, bit of an eye opener his commitment in some places!

Dont suppose you were there 3 or 4 years back when someone lost it and parked a cossie halfway up the right hand bank on the downhill run (good few metres high) behind a bit of armco protecting summut like an electricity box? God knows how!

Robin

Ive probably had getting on for 60 laps now as either passenger or driver, so im not totally green to it mate!

I got 10 mins flat on my first ever lap too which im led to believe is pretty good considering at that point i had never even seen a proper video of a lap let alone knew the track from the playstation or anything like some people do, so im not scared of the place or anything like that, i get out and give it a bloody good go!

Ive been round in a latest shape M3 as passenger doing 8' 40 or so, and an escos that i would guess was running around 8 flat (i didnt time it but it was massively quicker than the m3 everywhere, and he quite readily overtakes the ring taxi if they are out at the same time as him, its a an awesome car, 480bhp with "ringmeister" mike rainbird driving it) that was certainly a good experience.

Wasnt there when that cossie crash happened, but seems like most weekends somone on a bike seems to die!

actually i think i know the person you mean, sounds like one of the times my mate Nick's cossie has been written off there!

His brother IIRC was driving at the time.

Last year it was a more minor write off though with him driving himself IIRC

He was living there and they used to drive it REALLY hard, and if they crashed it they just reshelled it LOL

Now for comedy value he has it in a sierra estate shell this time!

When i see him next i will ask for details of his first write off and see if thats the one!

Have you thought about an m10 turbo project. Bullet proof bottom end. They are supposed to be good for 300hp+ at the wheels if done properly. This way you could retain the bmw engine, keep the nose weight down and fool yourself into thinking you've got the same engine that was in a 1980's F1 car

If i did it i would use a vauxhall XE probably mate, just cause i have all the bits for these engines lieing around anyway and know them inside out.
