So, my 318i M40 started a year back to make strange noises on the rear when pulling off from stop. Your could hear like a drumming, crecking noise like 3 or 4 times on a second when pulling off straight. Every day as I take the car of the garage, I put 1st, start to move, change to 2nd and while I reléase the clutch you can hear crck crck crk for a second or so. As the time passes by, the sound is getting worse. Now it does the same sound even when you are taking a corner. It seems that with an engaged gear it makes the noise if you are throttling or not. Yesterday going with another 2 friends in my car on a curvy old road you could hear the noise almost in every corner. A friend sitting on the rear right seat said that he could feel like someone was slamming or banging the floor.
When I get the car into the garage, sometimes when going the ramp down on corner slowly you can hear and feel on the entire car like knocks.
Don´t know if it´s the same thing but when riding over potholes with the right rear Wheel you can hear a big clunking noise like something is loose.

At the moment we have done so far:

-new rear shock absorbers and rubber mounts 25000km ago
-new right output shaft (had been without grease with cracked rubber boot too much time)
-diff seems to have no play (with car lifted up when you turn the Wheel front/back the input shaft moves without play) and all upper screws are well tighted
-diff bushing has no cracks and it´s entire
-rear axle and struts bushings are ok. Tried to move the axle and struts with a crowbar and no play was found.

The car starts to be scary and don't know what is happening here :( I appreciate your help.

Thanks

Handbrake shoes pin snapped. Had that before and made some funny noises.

Agreed. Putting them back together is another matter entirely though. :P

I struggled like hell the first couple of times I did drum brakes. Are a piece of piss once you get used to them.

Although not touched a drum brake for about a year now!
