I have recently made a set of spacers for my e30

35mm for front and 41mm for rear. I know they are quite big but i had to make the front ones to clear my front wheels from rubbing on my BC coilovers and from the inner arch wall when on full lock steering thus getting more steering..

Now the fronts are fine dont have any issues as of yet.. my problem is the rear ones they are rubbing the fenders like crazy.. The rear ones where made for looks as it would be strange for the ones upfront to be wider then the rears (meh thinks atleast)

i tried adjusting the coilovers as high as I can and on hard but they still rubbing even with no one sitting in the rear altough it got less frequent..

now sorry for the long story.. what my question really is where can I get Harder springs for my coilovers? and what spring rates? My current setting is 6kg both front & rear. Im thinking maybe 8kg front and maybe 10/12 rear. is that good?

Thanks any help is appreciated ;)

Rally design sell coilover springs in a multitude of rates and sizes.

Are you running stretched tyres? Have you rolled your arches?

Things you might want to considering doing if you want to run low with low offsets.

im running azev A forgot what offset they are but im sure the offset isnt good because with standard front shocks the rims used to rub the shocks.

they are 16" rims 7.5" wide with 205/50 tyres

will be rolling the arches tomorrow maybe but im sure it wont be enough.. ill post some pics up later of how they look now

if you want harder/firmer springs then try faulkners springs (demon tweeks sell them of go direct) they do all wieights/lengths.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

faulkners seem like good springs and at a good price but they dont have the big ones for the rear arms

Oh, are you not using a coilover unit on the rear? Might be worth putting an extra bumpstop in if it is laying into the wheel constantly.

For a 7.5 to be rubbing on the shock, must be about ET 40.

It's a bit hard to give advice when you've haven't explained why you've put coilovers on? Are they for racing or for stance? Can you live with the compromised ride?

ive got coilover system from BC though as in common setups in an e30 the shock and spring in the rear are still separate due to the shock tower weakness.. The coilovers have been on for more than a year and I can live with the compromised ride..

I have gotten coilovers due to the shocks were in need of change since previous owner didn't replace when needed and the car is planned to be used for drifting & maybe some track days though there haven't yet been many of the kind due to as of yet lack of power from my m42.

I just checked and they are ET 35 but bear in mind the problem came when i fitted the spacers. I know I can just remove them (the rear ones since they are the only ones rubbing) and all is well but I dont want to throw them away since they werent cheap and i like the wide look.. and i always thought the rear was always a lil bit soft compared to the front so different springs meh thinks are the only solution unless someone points me another way..

The following are links to some pics i have just taken

Rears https://www.dropbox.com/s/j1q8t4jdinosc ... .51.39.jpg
Front https://www.dropbox.com/s/6rrm8764vit6o ... .52.05.jpg
Side https://www.dropbox.com/s/ix7j4ywux6yfn ... .52.43.jpg

Edit:

Yeah i think i should put bumpstops since i dont have any neither front or rear since they werent supplied with the setup and never bothered to fit any

Yeah theres far too much offset on those rear wheels for those tyres. You'd have to put a huge amount of stretch on those to get them to run nicely. You'd be better of getting a smaller spacer. A spacer 10mm less would probably get it in line better. But even then you'd have to run a small amount of stretch.

And yeah, you really need to run bumpstops.

You're hardly running low, so your main problems are the spacing and size of your wheels and tyres, lack of bumpstops and the spring rates. Do the BC setups come with an adjustable spring cup on the rear then, with a shorter barrel spring.

The BC comes with the rear adjustable spring perch and shock thread though adjusting it isnt enough to stop it from rubbing when i hit bumps and cant have someone sitting in the rear.. i guess ill go to the BC dealer tomorrow maybe he can get me stiffer springs.. and ill try rolling my arches though i doubt it will be enough

otherwise i have to get the spacers back on the milling machine

Arches rolled and i m still waiting for a reply from the bc dealer..

why is the rear spring with different diameter? Can a normal spring with the same diameter all the length be fitted?

My advise is to definatly get them tyres off! You really need some with a lower profile than 50. And with a slight stretch too would really help
