Alright chaps,

Not an E30 problem, but probably relevant.

Got a horribly stuck, and now rounded bolt whilst trying to change the front springs on my Mums mk6 fiesta. Ring spanner rounded it a bit and stilsons wont even make it budge. its now pretty much circular.
Found out about these turbo socket things which look to be my last resort. Has anyone used them?

And it may sound daft, but if its a 15mm bolt head, will I need a 15mm turbo socket because its so rounded?

Cheers,

Pete

Had that exact problem once but someone had been in before me fitting lowering springs.

I used an irwin easy out kit that I bought from machine mart.

ive had this problem on plenty of fords around that age, since rounding or snapping a few i've just left the hub attached to the strut and just removed bottom ball joint, drive shaft and track rod end.Remove whole assembly and change the springs with the hub still attached

Thanks for the tips chaps.
Going to try the lower ball joint again tomorrow, that bolt wont budge either!
I'll look into the easy out things too.

IIRC then its a nut and bolt with a torx head on it. T40 possibly, but I always remove the 13mm nut and tap the bolt through

Also got to remove the caliper obviously, good luck though :)

you'd end up setting fire to the ball joint gaiter or driveshaft boot if you werent VERY careful

Irwin easy out should shift that. I have the full set and they've been a life saver many times.

Other option is to weld another nut to the rounded bolt head. The heat of the weld often breaks any corrosion and you have a fresh nut to grip to - use an easy out with this as well for extra shifting capacity.
