Have you got enough fuel in the tank? I don't know if you have a dashboard-mounted choke control or not, but usually Webers need a pump of the throttle or two or three to 'prime' them, particularly in cold weather - the accelerator pump squirts some fuel into the barrels as you put your foot down on the throttle, which acts as a choke.
Failing that, some brake or carb cleaner sprayed in the inlet bells usually does the trick.
I suspect it may be running rich, and sooted up its spark plugs, so whip them out and take a look at the tips, and clean them off if need be.

No need to get too despondent; properly set up, Webers work pretty well.
When you say the fuel pump is ticking, I presume this is an electric fuel pump. Is it the original BMW one, or an aftermarket one such as a Facet?
Some aftermarket ones can pump too much fuel in, which leads to flooding. You only need about 4 bar of fuel pressure at most.

Shat it... was saving for the wedding and it was quite well sorted, so it wasnt quite the same after I had it the way i wanted it... fancied a cheaper one that I could use as a hobby I thought buying a cheaper one was a good idea and that I wouldnt fear damaging it so much.ross_jsy wrote:Gotta ask, why sell a known good iS and buy what will clearly be a troublesome turd?318isPMK wrote:It sounded terrible on Monday and is dead today wtf is it with me and these shitboxes!
But started reading instructions in the Wiki and without some basic training I fear I'll never understand any of it.

I don't know what pump it is, I think I was once told it was under the rear seat? Im flat out at work the now (end of month and all that) so will need to have a play with it on Saturday. But that could be really short play around if it doesnt jump start... respond to bypassing the relay or respond to a cleaning of the carbs and dizzy. I think thats about all Im brave enough to attempt lolSpeedtouch wrote:No need to get too despondent; properly set up, Webers work pretty well.

cheap run arounds = expensive upgrades
i bought my calypso and thought i had bought alot of car for the money.. But i got bored so before i knew it, m42 engine conversion, leather seats, mtech steering wheel, alloy wheels, lowering etc... now im 2Gs in the hole n im far from finished
Tho individually these mods arent expensive but they do add up..
Could have bought a nice 318is with all the money i spent.

Not so good Paul by sedditas should at least get it running properly for you. Might be worth a trip there before Boyd checks everything else out.
But it is time to get your hands dirty, I bought my cab having never worked on an e30 before and a good 10 years since I did any of my own maintenance. It gets easier and most jobs are fairly easy as long as you have a decent toolset from halfords and some ramps, jack etc.

get yourself a set of the halfords pro tools. They're half price. 150 piece for £99.99 is a steal, I've a thread on it in E30 chat.

Get a detailed photo up of the engine bay, showing in particular the carbs, and we may be able to spot anything obviously amiss...

I have a hunch that a pic will shortly be posted of a pair of worn out 70's Weber carbs , incompatible and badly fitted to an M10 engine

Sales battery = A fooked battery that a less than scrupulous seller fits to a turd JUST before collection.
