Hi great site I am in the process of buying a m tech 1 325i sport
It has a problem with regards to as soon as it is started the temprature guage rises to the red instantly .Even if the car is cold . I have asked a few people and the culprit seems to be the temp sensor or maybe a bad earth behind the clocks . Has anyone come across this problem before . Also the car runs fine no oil and water mixing .Heaters are warm and water is circulating around the engine properly any help would be helpfull thanks raz

Sounds like somethings shorting to earth. Shouldn't be an expensive problem.

Thanks bud hope it's a easy fix think I'm going to rule out the head gasket and concentrate on the temp switch and bad earth theory :)

First thing to do is to disconnect the 20 pin C101 engine loom plug and socket next to the fusebox, turn the ignition on, and see what the gauge does.
