Could be rotten underneath, could be solid - who knows, probably not even the seller. Wheels and clear lenses don't give me a good feeling.
A member on here paid good money, more than this one, for a very clean Tech 1 Sport and it turned out to be rotten.
Don't bid or buy without getting in about it with a screwdriver to check for rust.

Hmm, selling for a mate who has emigrated to Australia.
Am I cynical for thinking that translates to "This pile of scrap looks pretty enough but don't even think about complaining when the wheels fall off at the end of the drive".

The CAT C was in august 2007- spoke to the owner about it and he is unaware of any such thing, and has no reciepts or transactions for any type of work that may have happened in that year

Sadly old turds get a cat C very easily, because loss adjusters see them as old scrap of which some are, therefore the repair soon mounts up to more than the value of the car.
I have a mk1 golf cabrio that was stolen and then recovered 50m away the only damage was slit in the roof, and a broken steering lock. Cat C
It wasn't mine at the time.
Looks tidy in the pictures, but that rear valance has had some action, the door cards are wrong, there is somthing a wry with the drivers door, and of course the BKs and eye brows.
Its getting hard to find ones that are perfect now though.

thats the case,i do keep a look out for tech 1s for sale, they dont often come up, there was that nice 6.5k one a couple of months ago , wonder if it sold ? , then theres ones like this, look how nice mine looked when i go it, still needed a new rear panel, but then most/all tech 1st pretty much need or have had a new rear panel, rear arches etc, spose you just have to get one, strip it, and sort it, to have a god tech 1 these days and better the devil you know, getting rarer all the timemaggspower wrote: Its getting hard to find ones that are perfect now though.

Not sure it is my cab is Lachs Silver and looks a lot lighter (even in the shade), but it is hard to tell in pictures. The car in the OP appears to have a different colour driver's door to the rest of the car too, it appears to be a shade or two off!TPS wrote:Lachs Silver I think.

Fair enough, just doesn't look it in the photos compared to mine, as I say, hard to tell for sure with pictures given that cameras do all sorts of different things with settings etc.

ive not brought it, but was quite keen to go and have a butchers, but was being put off by a few things, not just the cat c thing!

The amount of user ID,s he,s had would put me off.
Might be all very innocent and I might be very cynical.

You just described 80% of tech 1 owners.Topblag wrote:

If I was to buy another 25+ year old car for the money I did... It would be getting pulled apart before I parted with my cash.
or buying a cheaper turd and putting the money I saved towards a restoration.
The latter would of worked out cheaper than buying one that looked shiny.
At least you can only be pleasantly surprised.

Haha you coont.
You're right tho. I bought this car under the naive impression it would need very little done to it.
You live and learn.
I'm takeing pleasure from certain aspects of it. I'm twisted that way
Ah I'm just itching to drive it lol.

my tech 1 purchase was a live and learn affair, looked great when i bougght it , yet id say its impreitive all tech 1s have to be fully stripped if its a keeper, f**k spending 5k on one and not looking , yet to think of spending 5k and totaly stripping and removing the dash and stripping the floor etc sounds crazy, so if you really want a tech 1 for the long term its better to buy a cheaper one and do the do and wind up with a car you know inside out
trouble with mine- it was ok, could of very easily patched a couple of bits up and carried on enjoying it, one rear arch was fine and had had a repair to the inner that wasnt rusty at all, and the other was ok but couuld of done with being done at some point, and the rear panel was ok had had some repairs and wasnt rotten, but decided to do the lot,but shes going to be the absoloute business when im driving it around in the summer, and with all the new and refurbed parts and interior condition and all the rare morsels etc, it will be one of the best tech 1s on the road
