So Guys what is everyone doing to their track cars over winter?
I have such a large list to complete.
1. Fit and plumb Gearbox cooler.
2. Finish building 3.46 LSD and install.
3. Reroute and relocate new Battery.
4. Fit higher rate springs all round.
5. Remove more wight.
6. Spray boot lid and spoiler.
7. Work more on Aero.

Too sodding cold and dark to do stuff after work!
Trying to cram as much in to the next few weekends now, before hols.
Hoping to finish off the disc brake conversion, fit mainly track based suspension, wang a transponder a sumpguard and 4 Marangoni tres on it and see what's what

Yesterday's work.
Oh, and I suffered the inevitable "cheese" brake pipe hose union shenanigans, so I'll be after top tips on getting them off...

Will hopefully be finishing mine off. Fitting pedal box and brake lines, re-fitting dashboard, fit seats & harnesses and get the M52 engine & box in place and running.
Fingers crossed for minimum number of teething problems.

Its a very common problem on all BMW's!
My top tip would be to buy one of these;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rothenberger- ... 4abd0f8be4
I know its expensive, but it will save you so much time in all the jobs yet to come ;)

Would be good to see some photos of the pedal box and its mounting in the E30, I see a lot of them on eBay but I have not had one in my hands.Motorhole wrote:Will hopefully be finishing mine off. I am very tempted though!

I got a heat gun on there for a bit, not quite as hot but still pretty toasty. Nada

Heat guns are not powerful enough, you need to get it really hot, not glowing but hot enough to brake the rust seal.
If you have some fibgreglass reflective matting you can put against the car body to save the underseal and the interior paint.

Here's the trial fit, with holes drilled and bolts loosely in place:Demlotcrew wrote: Would be good to see some photos of the pedal box and its mounting in the E30, I see a lot of them on eBay but I have not had one in my hands.

Have since cleaned up & spread the footwells and assembled the pedal box and bias bar properly. Will be going in either just before Christmas or just after new year

Thanks for that, the fit looks good.
The accelerator also looks like its in exactly the same location as the stock one (which is a good sign), what about the other two pedals are they going to be sitting in a similar location as the stock pedals?

I think they fit slightly lower, but not far off. The pedal ratio for the brakes btw is 6:1.
It didn't fit great at first though tbh. I think possible due to the car being jacked up from the 'jacking pads' at numerous points under previous owners, the floorpan was ever so slightly bent where the stock throttle pedal mounts to the floor. Required a spot of panel beating. Also have a 4 mm thick aluminium spacer between the pedal box and the firewall - can just see a bit of it poking out to the right. The frame of the pedal box rests on the inside of the wheelarch.
In terms of holes, the left-most hole in the floorpan is VERY close to the chassis rail, so much so a standard washer won't work. Same with the left-most hole through the firewall. Got some steel for making profile load-spreaders the other three holes in the floorpan will use a single piece of steel bar. It shouldn't be going anywhere

Raised rear beam with adjustable camber and toe, fit new powder coated fuel tank with some new brake lines while im in there and have a load of other bits coated for the hell of it. Apart from that I will be using the car as storage and walking past it a lot
Oh, ive got a flossman front thing to bodge on as well
I might even get the rear ARB fastened on again...

Got the last of the sound deadening out last night, gonna give it a little bit of a clean then fit the cage whilst getting the sunroof welded up. Finished building my diff, will get round to fitting that and new prop bearing in a few weeks time.
Got some new brakes today, is ET15 on the front possible without arch work? I think the front is lowered -40mm with 215/45/16 tyres and I'm guessing ET15 would clear them, won't know until I can run a trial fit.
Wouldn't mind getting hold of a lightweight bonnet over Xmas but funds are running tight this time of year!

is that a flossman splitter than extends back towards the rear subframe? Will it clear the m52 sump?DanThe wrote:Raised rear beam with adjustable camber and toe, fit new powder coated fuel tank with some new brake lines while im in there and have a load of other bits coated for the hell of it. Adjustable camber and toe may not be necessary if you are raising the rear beam

Im running 215 40 16 with an effective ET of 0 on the front and no issues with arch clearance.Jimbob wrote:Got some new brakes today, is ET15 on the front possible without arch work? Gearbox rebuild
Fit e46 rack
A bit of welding
Fit VDO gauges
Possible headwork/different cam depending on finances
That's the main things, going to be a busy winter as I have a huge list of small jobs to do as well

Awesome! Motorsport white will catch on, I've been saying it for years!
Is this the new shell on eBay earlier this year?

its a shell i have built myself. from a poverty spec 318i. its had a few of the usually repairs along the way. its fully seam welded, gusseted front chassis legs, skidded front floor to chassis rails, fully multi point welded in cage, chopped and raised boot floor. tubed jack/sill mounts for axle stands etc. im currently getting it rolling on newly painted suspension. poly bushed throughout with bilstein rally suspension.
currently on the fence on engines, as i have all the parts to build a 2.1 m42 however im thinking a nice 6cyl would be good but im worried that it would loose some of the 4pots nimble handling.
more pics to follow...................
