in pondering what new daily driver to get and concidering hot hatches, pondering various other cars, i keep thinking another 318is might be a good option, in red or white this time

since my e30 went of fthe road a year ago and i sold my escort, ive only been driving my range rover, and it hit me earlier- its been a long time sine i just "went for a drive" , i sometimes do in the range and go up a few tracks and lanes, but when i had my 318is and 325i on road- i often just stuck £30 in and went for a drive, and had great fun, the 325i with the 17" pina reps and jamex and no pas- wasnt as "fun" as the is, in how nimble and fun it was, right on the money for "having a drive"

so im thinking of buying another

anyone know these cars ? or point out if any of you are close to one and wouldnt mind a look maybe

this one looks tidy, but the bubble on the roof, is off putting ?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0933947372

this red one ? he says bought for track, but didnt track it, yet hes fitted track exhaust etc ? although looks not bad

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-e30-318-I ... 7675.l2557

and this one, looks quite nice, but seen it for sale a few times by the seller not being able to sell it, makes you think

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-3-Series- ... 416c3e1f20

and this white one looked nice, i asked the seller a few questions, he was rubbish at replying, then went quiet when i asked about the inner rear arches, then said the other day hed taken a deposit

You allready have a 325i sport, say you can get a decent ish 318is for £1500, if you wait and keep looking you could probably pick up a low mileage 316i or 318i with minimal owners for a similar price which would make a better daily as it would be nice and tight and reliable :D

I'am sick of buying e30s that have been fooked about with, contiplating on getting my touring back on the road, most tight and well put together standard e30 ive drove, and its just a boggo 318i with low mileage and 1 previous owner

im only pondering, if i could find "a nice" 318is for 1500-2k range, id be in i think , i miss e30 driving :( , my 325i is going to be pristine once done and garage kept, im not going to want to drive it too much ,no rain or work use etc or keeping outside, an is id daily drive and enjoy, id prefer an is over a 316/318, i love the is interior, the revvy want to drive engine, although when i had my tech 1, and my is, and escort, all parked outside - i chose to sell the is, as it wasnt the same driving it after the 325i roar , but ive since sold the escort and all parts for £2300, thats sat there waiting to be spent, so if i spent that- its like a swap for the escort

but like you say- its finding a nice one thats not been abused

or if i could- id even like a henna red or bronzit 2 door chromie, and put a tech 1 kit on, but then your embarking on another long expensive project, and i want to avoid that, but id definatly concider a nice standard bronzit e30

just want something i can enjoy really, once my tech 1 is done to where i want it to be by the spring - next winter job is to overhaul underneath and engine- maybe a full engine rebuild and possibly something to make it a bit faster than standard, if i had a nice is, i think id maybe do that over the summer instead of putting the sport on the road

Similar to what Alex says, a lot of IS's have been ragged or had some council love. Every time I worked on my old IS, I was forever undoing acts of previous bodgery..

Tourings have had a better life..

What he said

If you've got £2300 burning a hole in your pocket get a good 325i Touring for around £1500, spend a few hundred refreshing the suspension and forget the 4-pot scrap :D

i dont want another 325i !!! and dont want a touring big boot space !!!

ive got a 325i , thats the pleasure , i drove it around as a daily for a few months and the fuel bills were not pretty , i do way more miles now for work, a 318is or a 318i 4 pot fits the bill.... an e30, cheaper fuel, fun, nimble, and then when i take the 325i out on a nice sunday and nice weather...it will be roaaaarrrr smile on your face time :D

so il get the benefits, of driving an e30 on a daily basis with cheaper fuel bills than the 325i, and now in the range rover, plus still have the 6pot roar for pleasuire driving, and not minding the fuel bill once or twice a week

4 pot BMW's are pointless

If you want fun and frugal in your budget I'd be looking at something like this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-GO ... 416da016c6

or even this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Astr ... 416cde8e20

Both of which would run rings around an iS in 1990 and still will today.

i like the 318is, not pointless , its an e30 and still an enjoyable and fun car to drive, im not on a budget as such , but as a 3rd car and a daily, and having a 325i and a range rover- i want something cheaper on fuel than them and doesnt have to be world beating fast, the is is fast and nimble enough as a daily car , a golf- is definatly a car id concider and would have, if i found the right one, but most mk2 golfs have been abused and immense milage and rusting etc , not easy to find a nice one ive looked from time to time

i think its "ok" certainly better than a p38 !!!! i found you could get fairly decent keeping it under 3-3.5k , or you could wind it up a bit when you wanted a bit of a drive, had a good balance, plus its an e30 !!! id even have a nice 318i lux, or a cabby if i could find the right one at right price

i do wonder at times, those who say a 4 pot is pointless, have they ever owned and enjoyed a 318is over a period of time ?

If you want a fun e30 for going on little drives then you really can't beat a 325i cab.! Bag loads of fun with that top down and that m20b25 sound track.

I've never driven a 6pot, only passenger, they defo pull more than an iS and no doubt a little quicker but I couldn't fault the m42 in the touring had a enjoyable time while it lasted.

I had one for over three years, they're great fun, completely different to the 325i I own now. I've still got it and hope to get it back on the road at some point.

I just figured if you've already got two beasts, that you wouldn't be saving much on cost on running an is. But as you said you're not on a tight budget.. So go get another :D

I am a fan of the IS they are great to drive and own. Polsta if was looking at those examples i would rule out the ones on bk reps instantly. You should get a good IS for 2000k.

If it were me i would buy a cheaper one and just rag it about but thats me and i always buy cheap rusty scrap lol.

At capri_rob you snob lol
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

tbh i didnt even think about the reps, hated them on my 325 and soon got shot, id maybe prefer a nice alpine than a red, if red would have to have real nice paint i think, way i see it- pay 800 for one with issues, rust issues-grotty wings or whatever, you either have to wort it or watch it eay away and cash go down, a nice clean 2k example then youl sell it for what you paid or more somewhen down the line, missing daily e30 driving

Looks ok that, I do like the alpine and I am still keeping an eye open, do you think it's just the panel edge there, Or could be deeper problems with the sunroof/roof rot ? , although being sold by a dealer/trader who's probably got over estimations of its value, it's still got 140k on it and cracks in dash etc, but worth watching ...
