right people , i got a 85 auto 318 , ive bolted in a 325 with auto from a prefacelift 325 with the round engine plug
mine has the square/rectangle plug so ive looked up the diagrams for loom plugs etc , ive fitted the square plug to the 325 engine loom ,
its worked out colour to colour apart from 1 wire from the car loom side ,(brown with purple trace) that isnt connected, and theres a few on the engine loom that aint connected but i presumethey are for check lights etc ,
i havent put the box loom in yet but i got it turning over , but its not firing and the fuel pump isnt priming ,
ive lived the relay for the pump but isnt starting yet, other than no box loom is there something i missed with wiring in the engine plug?
anyone got a better diagram than in the wiki? as that hasnt really helped me lol,.

The ONLY wire that needs to be connected in any E30 engine loom plug for the engine to run is the plain green ignition switched live. The green/purple wire feeds power back put of the engine loom for the fuel pump, but there are other ways of feeding this, and a 12 volt feed of short duration is also required to the black/yellow wire to trigger the starter motor.
Apart from the main loom plug, whether it's rectangular or round, there are two other wires that must be connected - the two that go to battery positive and negative.

battery terminals connected , hence it turning over ;) lol ,
how does the engine loom earth? as i havent seen any earths on the loom that i remember apart from,
im hoping that somethings just come unplugged while fitting the engine in as i fitted it with loom still attatched,.

Engine loom earth = battery negative = stud on top of RH suspension turret, although IIRC some ancient stuff has some brown earth wires bolted to the inlet manifold.
