I've just done all the front suspension (wishbones, droplinks, bushes, track rod ends, shocks, springs) & had the tracking done... & a vibration through the steering wheel has appeared! It ain't supposed to work like that! (I had new front tyres fitted & balanced a month or so ago btw)
Anyway, it's from 65ish up to 80ish (just nipped to my private test track on the way to work) that it vibrates - whenever I've had unbalanced wheels it's been at a bit lower speeds than that? Could the tracking be at fault? I'd take it back & get it re-done, but I'll look blimmin stoopid if there's nowt wrong with it!
Cheers

15" BBS, as BMW intended
TBH I doubt it's the wheels, as there was no problem before the weekend when I did the suspension stuff... There were some rather tired bits in there, so I'm a bit p'd off that it's created issues rather than fixing em!

i would first of all just remove the front wheels and then fit them again, could be something as daft as not offered upto the hub correctly or not tightened up in sequence.
If it still wobbles, then i would go back to tyre place and ask if they would not mind balancing them again ( i would assume they would do this for free if it was only 1 month ago) at least it will exclude the wheels/tyres.
Is the vibration just through the steering wheel or is it through the floor?

I'm probably wrong, but have you driven harshly over any curbs or similar recently? Wheels might have flat spots?
Just a thought....

Not that I can think of... & I drove it pretty damn carefully to the tyre place to get it tracked! The way it's just appeared after the work I've done makes me definately think it's suspension / tracking related, although a weight could always have fallen off I guess.NIX wrote:I'm probably wrong, but have you driven harshly over any curbs or similar recently? It was fine on Saturday, did the work, drove it to get it tracked & the vibration had appeared... Can't honestly think if it did it on the way to get the tracking done!

Yeah I'll pull the wheels off & check all the new bits are done up tight too... It's not a big vibration compared to what I've had from unbalanced wheels & it's only through the wheel, so I can't imagine it's anything to do with the back. I've done the shocks, springs & topmounts on the back, but the bushes need doing...
I had the tracking done at the same place who fitted the tyres, so I'm hoping they'll be happy to help out... Just wanted to pick everyones brains on what else could be at fault first really!
Cheers
