metal grinding noise? Centre prop bearing??

hi zoner's!!

Need some technical advice or suggestions! I have a small issue with my car, currently when i first pull away i get a juddering grinding noise, this then develops to a scratchy metal noise as speed is increased. This sounds very like a bearing ... but reading up on this bearing going on the prop shaft, it indicates that you would feel vibrations form the prop, and i don't have a lot of that at all. it sounds very much like its coming from middle of the car and there is small amounts of vibrations coming from the centre console just by the hand brake leaver? I'am assuming this is what it is but could any one clear any light on this?
