Not that im planning on doing this so please no e30zone village people with your torches and pitchforks ready to hate (hence the silly question time title)
So ive always liked pillar less doors on coupes, all the other 3series coupes had them. Yes the e30 isn't a coupe its a 2door. But ive always wondered would a convertible door bolt straight onto a 2dr obviously you would need to fabricate the b pillar and so on. Plus it will be too much work for little reward.
bored, silly question time...

yea thats what i ment diable, i thought it was called a pillar-less door. obviously it will be almost impossible to make it pillar-less like the old skool merc e320 coupe.
the closest you can get to that is an e30 convertible with a hardtop and all the windows down

i suppose in theory you could start with a convertable e30 with all it's floorpan strengthening and get a tintop roof grafted on, with the b-pillar deleted. the wheelbase is the same, the boot is the same, the screen is the same shape and size.
obviously it would take a massive amount of work, but it would be possible.
i think cabby doors would fit, but they have a 1/4 light window which would spoil the clean look so you'd need some custom fabrication there to get a one piece window in, plus work something out with all the seals etc.
