Dan, you're going to need a lot more than a few brackets to keep your 'M3' driving in the straight line. These are the least of your worries.

Hows the S14B20 build? winkeye

They were £11 ish each but you probably get a better discount than me!

You should also fit parts 8 and 18.
I if you need more info just check my thread.
These are always recommended when building a track car!
Sweet built btw.
An chance you could send me more info on the seats?

Seats are from a Mercedes SLR and are of the XL variety due to my size!!

I have them at work so will let you know tomorrow. One of them is unavailable as you found. From memory the 8s were about £20 and the 18s about £15... I am not going to fit them at this stage as I can only do 1 side of the lower ones and I have just finished refurbing the inner arch on the left! Thanks for suggesting it though, I may buy the upper parts for future use :)

i meant the seats ...lol.... cause if they are that cheap i ll order a few of them lol

As for the one missing you can easily get tat made. Thats what i did.
Cost me 50 Euros but in my eyes it was worth it.
Otherwise you need to find a convertible that is being broken andremove it from it.

The seats are around £8k each I have been told. As you might imagine I did not pay that much!
Do you have drawings for that piece or did you just get an opposite made of the side that is available?

I just made the opposite of the one i had. Its easy to do.
Co me to think about it i should have made some drawings prior to mounting it for these cases. Just did not think of it.
If you can make some some rough sketch with the dimensions i should be able to put it on solidworks that you could take to a shop and get it made. I would just mirror it so its for the other side.
Any chance of getting any more seats like that? Although i am after the Performance BMW ones i really like these.
What is their weight?

I'm sure when I checked this last night someone had asked where the snap off hub had come from? This is it: http://www.driftworks.com/shop/driftwor ... pacer.html The only thing I would say is if you can find it somewhere else other than driftworks do it! I placed the order and paid extra for quick delivery, heard nothing for 5 days, rung them up only to hear they had no stock for 6 weeks! As it happened plans changed and I didn't need it in a hurry so waited for more stock to come in.
Other than that the hub is great, no play and as it is ball bearings they can adjust over time so that play is not introduced.

Simon - engine has been steam cleaned and is sitting in the corner of stores under a cover. As the move in date for the unit has not been decided I can't decide whether to take it up north or leave it down here until next year!

Did you get my text about storage in my Putney garage?

It was £70 in ebay, like you say, it looks identical to the lifeline one, will be interesting to compare the two when it turns up. I was torn between this and one which looks very similar to yours.

How do you find the telephone wire for the switches? Do you have a shorter rack? Can imagine it getting very tangled up on full lock with a 4.5 turn rack :D

I have a z3 rack on mine at the moment so a little better than standard!
Not sure what it is like as the car has been on stands for 2 years and the dash was only installed 6 months ago!! Need to decide where to mount the plug and that will make a big difference!

So almost a year since I last posted up in this thread the car hasn't had much done to it really!

I moved into a workshop in Surrey earlier this year and moved everything down along with the car.
How we stand at the moment with the workshop:
Image
Having a ramp has made life a lot easier and my back is not in so much pain all the time!

M30 engine pulled out:
Image
All M30 stuff has now been sold on.

Long term (as everything seems to be with this car!!) is a V8 of some description but for now the car is getting an M52B28:
Image

I decided whilst the engine was out to do a few small rust repairs and get the bay painted. So after some welding I paint stripped the front end and removed a few brackets:
Image

A painter from work is currently prepping it ready for paint:
Image
Image

As with the rear end I have been doing some reinforcement to the front end as well. As you can see in the above photos I welded in the cab reinforcements to the inner wing and have also done the usual crossmember stuff. I was going to order the kit from Turner Motorsport but one Saturday woke up fired up for some fabrication so made some similar plates myself:
Image
Image
Image
This has all gone off along with a load of other brackets for powdercoating but I forgot to take any pictures when they came back!

I have also been buying some bits to make putting it together a bit easier, so had a massive order from BMW for fixings etc. No pictures of the haul but they will be seen when it goes back together!
Also bought some Gaz Golds to match the rears I have had for ages.
Image
These were actually the first ones which arrived which they had forgotten to add the M3 arb tabs to them. Once the car is getting back together I will measure it all up and make some adjustable links to help with setup.

I am hoping once the 'bay has been painted I can get stuff back in a little more quickly than the year it has taken me to get this far on the front end
To be continued...

Forgot I also pulled the carpet out and dyed it black...

Then finally got both front seats mounted properly.

Need to do the door cards now although I tempted to remake them in carbon.

So...
Haven’t updated this for a while!

So engine bay is painted:
Image

Started to fit it up:
Image

Powdercoated the re-inforced subframe and refitted Z3 rack along with DanThe’s pipes and linkage:
Image

Few more bits added:
Image

Coilovers with adjustable topmounts fitted, you can also see the cab reinforcement panels I added:
Image

Engine falls in:
Image

Did some wiring:
Image

What is the plug on the left for, do I need it?
Image

Wiring covers almost fit, need a little more thinning on the wiring!
Image

I had to move the clutch reservoir so that the strut brace fitted, also used it to mount the coil wiring:
Image

Few more bits added:
Image

Made a bracket for the airbox (need a new airbox, the outlet got cracked in storage)
Image

Coilovers fitted with new back plates and refitted the WMS brakes and some new bullet nosed wheel studs. Arches also got a cleanup as well:
Image

Then the diff fell apart:
Image

Painted some bits:
Image

Image

Had a few new bits to put on/in:
Image

Going back together:
Image

Image

Image

Checked the backlash:
Image

And back in place. The temp sender will feed the LCD dash when I finally get round to wiring it up!
Image

And then today I did a little more cleaning underneath:
Image

Image

So this is where we stand at the moment. Sometimes I look and think it is almost there, other times I think how much I have left to do for it to be ”˜ready’ for me to take on track!
Image

Updates might be a little more regular now as I would like to get it on track soon!

That's the problem at the moment, I am enjoying the DIY element! Problem is every time I get to another part I decide to refurb or replace which adds to the time, it was supposed to be a quick bush refresh on the rear end 3 years ago!

I know the feeling.

But what I did (am doing) was just prioritise what would get me on the road enjoying the car and whet can wait for a other time - then stick to that list ruthlessly.

Can't you get the pit crew on it? :D
