e30 touring build
Moderator: martauto
I suppose i better start a build thread as its nearly ready to drop the engine back in. oh well i'll learn how to put pics up and start a thread .
I bought the shell with loads of work done but it had been stuck outside for 2 yrs when i got it last xmas, consequently it was full of water, engine was fooked, rear arches needed flaring, whole car needed sanding and painting in and out and under the bonnet.
So to start with i spend a few evenings putting a steel plate over the sunroof hole, (it will be a track/drift car). There was one already in there but it had rusted near the corneres, so i ripped it out and started again.
Bonnet was stripped of all internals and 4 bonnet pins fitted.
Rear door was removed and replaced with a quick release one, two brackets at the top and pins at the bottom.
removed front and rear bumpers, lightened them and made those quick release as well.
All side and rear windows fitted with polycarbonate and all doors stripped and alloy pannelled.
front panel and valance removed and made quick release
front top panel and slam panel removed and replaced with a box section, quick release again so now engine comes right out the front
custom mountings for alloy rad and twin fans, quick release again
front arches rolled and rear arches flared
is sills
custom built front coilovers with adjustable top mounts
bilsteins on rear
wheels 16x8 et 10, 4 x 114 with 25mm adapters
new discs and calipers alround.
completely rewired with military style quick release on bulkhead. takes seconds to remove the loom.
Thatll do for today but will take a load of pics at the weekend and get this thread up and running.

so did the engine fire up okay today?

well i got so busy that i forgot the pics. well it runs!!!!!. Still got to sort the cooling out. It has struck me that my rad is the problem. its an alloy triple core race radiator that doesnt run a header tank, it just has an outlet on the cap neck, therefore when it pressures up it blows the spare out. well if this is the pipe that goes to the bmw header tank, it obviously doesnt need to have a cap. i reckon that i need to cut the neck off, weld a flat plate over it and put a small outlet on the top of radiator.
This way i think that my rad would work as a normal bmw one. it'll have a top and bottom hose and an outlet that goes to the header tank. Does that sound feasible peeps

well im officially a computer retard, oh well never mind. Just been to Pro-alloy and picked up my radiator, i had the neck removed and just an outlet put in its place, Fitted it after work, now gotta get a few mikaloy clamps and 1mtr of hose, couple of gallons of petrol and fill it with antifreeze and fire it up. will take a few more pics and have another go at posting the pics tmrw eve. well im hopefull after 11 months of being pee'd of with it

register with photobucket the upload a pic from your computer, once its it the photobucket account click on the picture to make it bigger with all the details/link underneath. You can then drag the picture into the reply box on here then put the [img]******[/img] code either side of it.
Even if you dont manage to get the pics on here i might be able to get them on with just the links you put up.

No, No F/I, you can tell by looking at the intakemcbonio wrote:Oh nice, wasn't expecting it to be a racing car.!Looks like a nice build.!
I think I read Wixsy has a magasquirt setup on the car? Is this got some kind of forced induction?

If you Got "Haters",Then your doing something Right!
CR24v??? Where's it all gone?? LOL
Thanks Rav, its just a fun car, its not a race car. I just got carried away. I now need to find a local megasquirt man, and im hearing there may be one in colchester so that'll be good. If it goes ok , all well and good, and if not ill put something else in there. I really want to go either turbo or throttle bodies. Which is the best way to go enginewise to do this.
Would i be better just dropping in a M3 set up or do these engines turbo well, or would i be better off with a different model engine altogether. Ive just got it back together and im bored already

These M30's take well to Turbos, over in the states, there's one running over 500 RWHP
without any engine mods, or you can go M88/S38 ITB's
