Don't bank on that lasting mate - In my experience of working on E30s take the number of days you think a job will take, multiply by 3 and add a couple and that will give you a true figure of how long it will actually take.

You can also use that formula for how much a job will cost

In my case I'm multiplying the days by 10 Rob! :?

Fortunately I already have most of the parts that I need for what I want to do, but I realize that list is likely to expand ALOT as the project moves on!

Today in the garage might not happen, went out for a farewell pint after leaving ECP Leicester yesterday and got in at 4am,Feeling rough!

Dealer plates, tax disc holder and diamondschwartz sticker all turned up today courtesy of Pukar, foolishly ordered them before the carpet came out but glad I've got them, quality stuff!

Will be a while till they go on the car yet!

Christ, that looks like a result of too much time spent poking at cars and then typing about them on here.. I'm impressed :D
Aha, unfortunately it was due to a accident with a knife when I was much younger so had it a good 13 years like it. Cut the ligament and thats how it sat ever since

Just took a wire brush to the glovebox stud thingy, tried poking it but it wouldn't go through

That rust around the stud looks a little tricky, looks like its got under the stud. Wonder what it is like on the other side!?

That rust around the stud just wants cutting out mate and replacing. No point in not chopping it. But like Kedge said, whats it gonna be like on the other side... Have a check when you get the chance, not sure how easy it is to see from there though being under where the loom is...

Made some more progress today, Jim came over and cut almost all the rot out whilst I made tea and got in the way. Thanks again Jim!

I'll let the pics do the talking, looks like pedal box and ABS unit will have to come out before welding

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Nearly rot free now!

I met a former owner of my car yesterday. When I first went through all the cars paperwork I noticed 10 years worth of mot's at garages in kettering, ten mins from where I live, turns out the guy is a Mechanic at IJ Feakins. He used to buy parts from a local factor I worked at years ago so we recognised each other straight away, it was quite weird!!

He came in with a photo album full of pics of the car over the ten years he owned it, inluding copies of the same photo's that I got with the car stripped in the bodyshop in 2006. he also has all the paperwork for the rear end restoration and is gonna dig it out for me, reckons he spent a fortune over the years. Think I might invite him over to have a look before I get the welder in, he said he'd love to work on it again!

That rear floor pan had some really thick sound deadening stuff on it which wouldnt come off, so rather than missing anything underneath it, we just cut the whole square out... I say 'We', Matt did fook all other than get it the way winkeye

The seat Belt and seat mount section thats chopped next to it had rust insire that whole section so rather than missing a the slightest bit, again, we just cut it out. I have a breaker here with a perfect floor pan so i'll chop that up tomorrow and get the replacement parts

The front sections where cut just larger than the previous bodges just to make sure it was all chopped out... Glad im not welding it though  :D

Still a fair bit to cut out but until next time :D

Kedge, I have a pile of new parts too at mine that will be on Ebay soon enough if they arent collected winkeye

That breaker will be a life saver then for replacing some of those sections!

So when is the weldathon starting then Matt?

Jim, you still on for Wednesday or Thursday? Car is turned around and ready for a good tear down.

Got a few more bits to look at before I get the welder in Dave, need to inspect the o/s rear arch and take the vapour tank out next

Take the filler neck out and check where it sits against the inner arch and the support bracket.

when you pull the breather tank out its the brackets in the top of the arch that grot out

Check my resto thread and you'll see exactly where to look

Outer arch and inner arches were replaced, although that section wasn't I don't think Dave, that vapour pipe section Is grotty so I assume this was the onl part that wasn't replaced and something was missed. We're gonna take all 4 arches back to bare metal next time just to make sure nothing is missed. And remove the rear beam :D

Plus, if we strip it all downnow, when I buy it for frag, I haven't got to strip it at a later date... Win win

Ahh yea I remember that bit inside now as well on the breather tube.

I like that new tactic, stripping down a breaker before buying it, only thing is it'll be harder to move back yours once the beam is out. I've heard about your generous offers already, he'll cave into you eventually.

Have found a place in Northampton to sandblast and powdercoat the goodies, waiting for a quote to come back today.

Still waiting on the Burton Engine mounts to turn up before we fit the rack.

The former owner is coming to have a look and give me a quote for the welding next week sometime, gonna get a few quotes before I decide who's doing it.
