Nice car and a very shrewd buy, no doubt. If you ever sell the E30 Alp, I want first refusal.. :D

Pete reckons they re-map to 440bhp in standard trim with no dramas? How much more torque do we get though?!

More power = more dramas. Leave it alone and get paedoing. As long as it can lift its skirts faster than Barry can lift his knuckles in his '46, that is all that matters ! :)

Now that is a chariot to be reckoned with... stunning.!!

Interior needs a deep clean though, and the engine bay scrubbing down.

But wooow, I'm ********* jealous.!

Barry drove off scared last night. I thought a minor ding dong may of happened but he left me to it! Scared stiff me thinks. the 46 had no chance from a rolling start

indeed interior needs a clean, how can i get the green and blue rhoms more blue and green again? Engine bay should be hard with the vast stock of shiney nuts and bolts i have in stock

Barry knows better than to tackle this in a dual using a 46' :D

I'm with pete.. Alpina got these just right they can be driven sedately bit like miss daisy and they are Happy... but unleash the fury when needed and it gets scary pretty quickly !!

Great cars, dare i say better than the E34 M5 ? I think so, :)
E34's often get overlooked, sadly BMW haven't built a decent 5 series since

I agree with what pete said, off the line, maybe up to 60-70 the 46 would be ahead but once that wave of torque comes in in 3rd gear, see ya! Epic!

Definitely tuneable, a couple of T3's maybe but f*ck all that! It's plenty quick enough and as with most turbo cars, when the boost goes up things start to break.

Leave it be IMO.

I would just be getting running spot on, clean injectors, waste gate actuators set correctly etc.

When we going to charlies? :)

When have you driven/been in a bi turbo topless? Alpina quote 13.2 1/4 mile time 8O maybe a trip to the pod is in order next year!

The fastest e34 before this i'd been in was again with demlot in Ste's/Sals/Fowlers/Big Jo's old 3.6 M5 which was quick i thought at the time

Would you look at the previous owner count?! poor car twas a nail.

The ECU is running for 95 octane fuel guys! I'll swap the pin 2moro with a pic.

It was quick the other night at ace but its going to be even better with it running on the super unleaded maps!!

The e46 m3 actually has a quicker 0-100 time than the b10 at 11.5 to 12.3. Although the b10 will open up a gap after 90mph. My m3 is comparable to my cousins e39 m5 to around 90mph but again thats when he starts to pull away. Its neither here nor there tbh, as A)you cant find many places to drive over the ton on the roads now, and B)There will always be something faster. The new m5 does the ton in about 9 seconds without the launch control for instance. You should keep it standard and cherish it.

A few years back a father of some bmwcarmagazine forum member was going to scrap one of these. He had it from new and it was now old and rusty, obviously someone made a phone call and took it off his hand asap.

It doesn't take long to start tinkering!

Image

Under this box is...............

Image

Is this litte red fuse looking thing. Now theres two slots for it to fit. One is for running on 95 ron fuel and the other 97 ron plus.

It was set to 95 in this mode, so i've moved it into the other slot for super unleaded. I told the previous keeper about this and he didn't know!

Image

As you can see half the alpina VDO guage isn't lit up, so i'm missing boost pressure in Bar and the diff oil temp

Image

A quick peek showed some bulbs like e30 OBC style

Image

Unit was easy to remove but i had to strip a few things out to get it off the car

Image

instruments out, steering wheel off. Luckily the air bag wheel has been replaced with this classic 4 spoker e30 style

Image

With it all apart a closer look showed the bulbs all looked ok.

Image

I checked for continuity across the cables and all seemed well. I did this on the bulbs as i guessed if they were blown but didn't look it they wouldn't pass this test. But they all did. So now i wasn't really sure as i couldn't visibly see anyhing wrong

Image

So before i refitted each unit into the PCB i squirted a dab of electrical contact fluid just to help as its good stuff on old iffy connections etc.

Image

plugged it back in to check that the one side still worked and the other side did! So must of been a dodgey connection

Image

All back together, so an easy fix

Just need to do the bulb for the OBC buttons. As thats annoying not being able to see them in the dark. Now iirc you need to get the whole unit out. Which means radio out first?

Went to bournemouth this weekend 4 up for a stag do. She's in her element on the m-way. OBC showed 33mpg when i got back.

Diff pinion oil seal is leaking, got the seal just need to find the time to do it.
