car not starting

my cab hasnot been starting at all. in the end i had to call rac. the engine ticks it doesnt start, recently serviced it?

Any ideas?

think you need to give some more details to be honest

does the starter motor turn the engine over? what did the RAC say?

sounds like the tick could be the starter motor because your battery is flat due to the cold weather.

the rac man just said take it to a garage and link it to the computer lol?

Did it suddenly stop working, or were there warning signs of trouble previously?

I'd try charging the battery as a first step, and give the starter motor a clout with a hammer, or rock it back and forth in 2nd gear if it's jammed.

it was misfiring first then it suddenly stopped? iv got an auto

Unfortunatly you really need to be methodical and follow the guide GrrrMachine has created in the wiki.

It might look like there is lots involved but its logical and will help you find the problem quicker in the long run than trying things at Random, and its easy enough to do with some very basic tools and will cost you considerably less (potentially nothing) than the few hours labour a garage will charge to diagnose \ fix the problem.

its odd its moody sometimes it starts if i just turn the key. somtimes it just keeps on ticking its odd

Starter solenoid,ring gear maybe loose earth or loose starter wire hard to say really it depends what it's doing ie sound it makes when you try and start it that's what I would look for on any vehicle but sorry I am not clued up on E30 I don't own one yet
