Heater matrix panel

Ok chaps - what's the best way to remove the thick rubbery insulation from the metal heater matrix panel that sits on the bulkhead below the windscreen? Was going to try soaking it in boiling water and trying to scrape off but if there's a better way...

None of it to my knowledge is glued on, only the sound insulation of stuck to the panels.
