Seeing as I have someone interested in possibly buying my cabby I thought I would have a look at whats currently for sale so I can get an idea in my head of what I think is reasonable for mine.

I'm not looking for a valuation, but I have noticed that there appears to be a lot of expensive turds for sale when it comes to the cabby's.

This time of year is never a good time to sell, but I can't help but think most are overpriced.

325i seem to be over the £1500 mark at the moment even for something clinging to MOT and TAX.

Do you think prices are generally this high or just dreamers asking for way over the odds

Original 325i's though? The 318i, and 320i seem to be cheaper but the 325i's (not converted to a 325i) seem to be much stronger money.

When I looked early this year anything unedr £1k was utter rubbish whatever the engine, I even viewed a maritius blue 318 with grey leather for £1500, that was shite too. Anything half decent was starting at around £1800 but even then I didn't see anything that was mint and ready to go.

Looking at internet ads for cheap cars that look good and concluding thats where the market is only means you'll buy rubbish.

I agree with Pete, I would be looking at low mileage or low owners, full or extensive service history, recent MOT and nothing less than a 325i. Then I recon you could get 2k plus depending on the aesthetics.

I think the cheaper ones around will need quite a bit of work and are being sold as they are a luxury expense?

I bought a laguna green 318 cab with 2 owners 98000 fsh everything bog standard for 1050 mint inside but rear arches are rusty so will end up owning me about 1500-1800. In my eyes it's better off buying a bog standard one instead off one that's been messed with!

I would agree, but how often do these come up for sale? Not that regularly and the ones currently advertised are more like 4K+

I guess I'm talking more about the middle of the road cars. Not mint by any stretch of the imagination but fundamentally good cars, without all the chav spec shit attached. They will have marks and scratches being 20+ years old.

ive looked around pondering a cabby, trouble is a LOT of them have rear arch issues, sellers seem to try brush it off as hardly anything, when rusty rear inner and outer arches- to do a proper, job on them, means - buying new rear inner arch wheel housings from bmw, outer arch panels, then the welding, then re painting of the rear quarters- but then being a cabby you just aswell re paint both sides, then really you just aswell re paint the bonnet, and boot lid, a near full re spray

so many of the "cheaper" cabbys for sale have rear arch issues

maybe its a case of a lot of the "better" e30s out there, not actualy being for sale and parted with, and more just the shite for sale

but - if you can get say a nice cabby, 325i, fsh, nice spec, nice engine etc...but just needing some body work, for cheap, needing rear arches and a near or full re spray, it may be worth doing if you end up with a 4k+ cabby, thats going to be good for many years to come ?

personly, what ive been on the look out for - is a nice 318i cabby in red or white, manual, with nice tidy body and a nice condition is check cloth interior

ones ive seen have either been total turds, or auto, id like a 318i as be cheaper to buy,and on fuel/insurance etc, than my 325i

If you go for a straight colour then paint after rear arch repairs isn't going to need to be too extensive, its even within the realms of a competant DIYer.

8O what you on about ? really your going to have to paint the whole quarter panel at least, to look decent , why go to the trouble of doing a proepr job, to then not paint properly

It depend on the extent of the repair, colour and condition of the rest of the panel but a good painter may not need to go to those lengths. I've painted rear arches due to surface rust on a white vauxhall nova on my driveway with a dealer supplied rattle can. It was nigh on impossible to tell they had been touched. On other cars like a previously restored signal red triumph GT6 getting a good finish to a localised repair was nigh on impossible.

Quite a few issues listed in the add on that one, But I do agree it looks good, but again a lowly 318I and still reserve not met.

Again a 318 and no record of a cambelt change for over 10 years, I think £750 is justifiable for that one.

I don't understand what you mean about issues listed, certainly the seller has been through the car thoroughly and I'd have thought thats pretty much ready to go. It will be interesting to see what that finishes at. Potentially the one thing holding it back is the autobox.

If the cheap blue one doesn't get much interest at up to a grand if you're handy with the spanners it could be potentially a good buy depending on structural condition.

As for the £5k neon blue one, if it sells for anywhere near that I'm going to have to get my hands dirty.

Remember peeps , mileage , mileage and mileage . That is what the paedoes want, low mileage original cars. That 70k turd, if it is as nice as it looks and it has the paperwork to verify its provenance will sell, maybe not at 5k but it will sell.
Low mileage and low owners are the two things you cannot change, no matter how much money you spend and they are the two most important factors in determining the value of a car, all else being equal.

Rtaylor,
I sold my 325i cab about 3 months ago for 1,900 quid.

The spec was;

100k miles, fresh TAX and MOT. 4 owners from new including me. Sports autobox was rebuilt 20k ago. Massive BMW service history. Totally original except wheels and 30mm drop. Sports cloth interior. The car was in good condition, few body work issues nothing major. Interior was mint. Everything on the car worked great, nothing broken. Engine was very sweet.

Just looking at your signature pic yours should fetch a tad more than mine, it looks in better nick. I'd say around 2k to start.
