This is annoying, I've just got my car back from getting some work done (none electrical) and left it outside my house a couple of days ago.
I'm just about to go down the post office and to get road tax and now I can't open the bloody car!!

It's always been a bit funny opening as I have to lock it from the drivers door and unlock it from the boot.
I've tried this a few times for about 15 mins including different variations and to no success :(

The key doesn't turn to the unlock position in both the drivers and passenger door, the battery I'm sure is fully charged so don't think that's it but this is really pushing to me the edge and I've just about had enough

Has anyone any idea how I can get my car open and how to fix this when I eventually do?

Sounds like the lock barrel has seized/jammed.

Long term fix is a lock repair kit from your local dealer, you get a bag of bits to enable you to build up a new barrel to suit your key.

As a short term 'fix' that hopefully will allow you access, try a good long squirt of WD40 or similar into the lock barrel via the key slot.

You can always remove the windscreen without too much hassle if this fails!

I lubricated the barrel a couple of months ago hoping this would help unjam it but to no avail, is there a way I can wire the central locking from the boot lock to unlock the doors?

Otherwise might be time I look up windscreen removal...

My central locking locked me in the car once.... then locked me out on another occasion, with the keys in the car and it running with a full tank of petrol.

I broke the window.. :(

I had this- if the deadlock is jammed, you wont help by breaking windows etc

what fixed it for me was what Malc said

Empty a big can of WD40 into the lock- it worked for me

Then DONT use that lock again until you fix it- get the lock out and sort the 'u' shape deadlock by giving it a good grease or replace

pick a window front or rear and remove the locking strip from the seal then pick the screen out by peeling the small bit of rubber lip back ,easier with two people but be careful .

nice and gently bently .

i had the same problem.

i ended up buying new key barrels from bmw main dealership. I have them my chasis number and they got me new ones for my same key.

u can fix them without buying new ones. but sooner or later, they mess up again. i used good old WD40. but it didnt last long so i bought new ones.

there not cheap either

WD40 didn't work so windscreen came out, turns out the battery was dead which is strange as it fired up immediately Sunday.

I've also Gavin from autoglass to fit my new window tuesday as my mate cracked it removing the screen with a screwdriver :-x

Cheers guys for your help, now to quickly pop down town and get some road tax finally :D
