finaly got a missing thing i was after , an 8pin din cable to link my blaupunkt memphis to the blaupunkt amp, took me a while (thanks to bss for pointing out you can use an alpine bus lead)

ive never had the stereo in a car yet, next i ned to buy some speakers, once i get them- is it ok/not ok to just wire the system up on the floor and connect to a car battery, to just check its all ok ? is there anything i should do and dont do etc ?

think im going to go with focal speakers this time round and try them

Connect the live side (fused) to the live + on a battery and the earth cable to the negative - on the battery.

My radio in my workshop is just a car stereo with a couple of speakers attached, but instead of a car battery, I used a computer PSU.

If you have an old computer you don't need, steal the power supply out of that. You need to join 2 wires together, but there's loads of pin diagrams on the internet. Then you have a DC electric supply that has perfect 12, 7.5, 5, and 3V sources, and will shut off the moment there's a short circuit.

Red = +5V, Black = Ground (0V), White = -5V, Yellow = +12V, Blue = -12V, Orange = +3.3V, Purple = +5V Standby

I have a few int shed but im sure ebay would be an easyier option as there cheap , all you will need is a "kettle " lead .
Id also still put in an inline fuse for safety sake

If you want to stick with the German theme, take a look at rainbow speakers. Crap name, but superb hand made in Germany speakers.

I've just fitted a set of 13cm componants into my e36 ( same size as youd put in the front of an e30 ) and they sound amazing.
cheers,

On my E30, a pair DLS classic components were installed with 2 way boston acoustics at the rear...powering them were DLS amplifiers with an Alpine 9887 headunit.
and not forgetting vintage Alpine bass 10" woofer in a sealed box...

Sound quality...good audio throw in the front accompanied by non boomy basses...
