Hay, iv got a m20b27 in my e30 that i built last year and I'm bored, i talked my self out of an m50 conversion last year as i wanted it to look original under the bonnet, but im now giving in,

Sorry if this has been answered somewhere else but i have rqd various other posts and searched but jsut cant quite get my head around it

iv set my mind on an m50b25 non vanos as i had one in an e36 and turbo'd it with good results

im going to go out and buy a complete running e36 2.5 non vanos, and need to know what else i need to get,
i.e what gearbox do u use, my e30 2.5 sport box, or the e36 box?
do i keep the original metal engine mounts off the e36 and then use e28 m5 rubber mounts?
and can i use my e30 rack without modification or shall i fit the e36 rack and buy a splined shaft from Danthe?
and is there a diagram for the wiring conversion anywhere?

all your help will be much appreciated, and again sorry if this has been covered before, if it has please link me to a thread and ill read away.

Keep the metal engine mounts, I think you move them back/forward though, e28 m5 bushes are what most us.
Use the e36 rack if your going buying a e36 you might as well! Slightly quicker than the E30 one and probably not as knackered. You'll need to make up pipes, buy them (of Danthe) or bend the E30 ones. Splined shaft is a good idea also.
There's a sticky about wiring up top of this section about wiring, or you could get Danthe to do your loom.

If you use the E36 gearbox you may want to change your diff as the ratio will be too long, E36 boxes are a direct 5th whereas E30 boxes are overdrive.

If you are planning on not going turbo, I really would recommend getting a M52 in there rather than the M50.
