Evening all
So tomorrow is the day (or two) I've been putting off for ages, I'm going to remove the old baggy/winchester style headlining and replace it with the minty fresh new unboxed one...
Malc has been a legend and helped us out with a list what to do- and I'll do a write up/pics as I dont think the wiki has a touring one-
However, a few questions I need help with.
The replacement one is a manual sunroof and mine is electric, so I will include fitment of a sports style black sunvisor heading. Anyone got any pics of how this sits and how its affixed? I know I need to cut the new headlining to make this fit too- anyone done this or got any tips?
Also I'm getting water ingress around the check panel- my aerial is loose and I'm wondering if its coming in there or from the sunroof itself- any experience? In conjunction with this the radio aerial gives poor reception. Is the mounting of this a contributor to a poor earth?
Thanks in advance-
Stu

You'll need glue, the sod of the job is getting the old stuff off, you'll also need a Stanley blade.

I did, ages ago, it really does need 2 people, mainly to lift the old/new one in & out of the car. Took us an afternoon, I'm sure, I could do it a lot quicker now though.

Ah- good stuff. Does the bit around the sunroof get held into place by the screw fixed plates?

I still cant picture how I can get it to stay incorporating the sport headlining bit- how does that stay in place?

Are you fitting the front panel from a saloon where the sunvisors sit ?
So you'll need to chop the front 8 inches or so away from the new headlining ?
If your aerial is loose this is almost certainly where water is getting in.
When the new lining is in place the material folds up through the sunroof aperture and goes under the razoe-sharp stainless steel plates which are held in place by screws - i used a wallpaper scaper to push the sides in.
You will need some contact adhesive ( aerosol is what I used ) for the front and rear parts of the sunroof aperture as you need to stick the material down and then screw the securing plates down on top.
In the words of the haynes book of lies refitting really is the reverse of removal
Be careful when removing the pillar trims ( all of them! ) the clips break for fun.
Good luck

Hi Rob- yeah I'm fitting one of these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E30-Headl ... 27cbb772ce
So I'll cut the new headlining 8 inches or so- how does the black thing stay 'up'? Is it the sunvisor fixings?

Think its just the sunvisor fixings and door rubbers that hold the edges in place - you'll need to swap the windscreen pillar trims too - touring ones are different to the saloon ones - the tops of the touring ones are pointy, saloon ones are flat - you'll see what I mean when you look at it.
