Ive fitted a few of these in the past, easy enough to use and wire in, currently fitting one on the Alfa at the moment.

Everyone seems to curse Clifford and not trust them. I have one on my Touring, it came with the car when I bought it.
I always keep the drivers window open when I work on it in case of it locking up on me..

Just bare in mind that a) any immobiliser fitted to an E30 will be defeat-able by someone who knows what they're doing in a few seconds or a minute or two at most, unless they are fitted in an infinitaly more sophisticated way than any I've ever seen. and b) the only person that will take the slightest bit of notice of your car alarm sounding is yourself.

true, but a lot of the time you can get a substantial insurance discount by fitting them. so if you want one then you may aswell get a decent one.
cheers,

Not if it gives you false confidence that your car is safe, and you then park it in dodgy areas.reggiebaby wrote:Any alarm is better than no alarm at all isnt it Brian?
Fit a switch in a spare dash position that SHORTS out the supply to the fuel pump to earth after the fuse, if an attempt is made to start the car with the switch still on.

well yeah i know that if somebody really wanted it it wouldnt mnatter as they would be able to take it, but if it stops the kid walking down the street thinking its easy to steal then it helps. Along with the Disklok thats fitted. Thats more my worry as they are becoming slightly desirable for parts these days

A £50 SR90 sparkrite alarm dose the same job as a £300 toad/Sigma/Cobra alarm.
An Alarm is only there to tell you that someone has broken into your car......

thats not really the case is it , well feature depending on that cheap one, (for the record i dont have an expensive clifford/toad etc) but..alarms do have various features, if you want all the features that iskam-325i wrote:A £50 SR90 sparkrite alarm dose the same job as a £300 toad/Sigma/Cobra alarm.

for example a cheap alarm may not have a proximity sensor- which when a real nice car "beeps" when you just stand close to it, that may deter a chancer/kid , from thinking about nicking the stereo and doing the lock , as opposed to doing the lock setting off the alarm and running off, or grabbing something quickly

If i was to "Spec-up" a cheap alarm with all the options, Proxy sensor, Window closer, Sunroof closer....you would be around the £120-130.....polsta wrote:thats not really the case is it , well feature depending on that cheap one, (for the record i dont have an expensive clifford/toad etc) but..alarms do have various features, if you want all the features that iskam-325i wrote:A £50 SR90 sparkrite alarm dose the same job as a £300 toad/Sigma/Cobra alarm.

My point is this, some people have the misconception that an alarm is there to stop people from breaking into your car.....
They spend god knows how much and then moan like fook when some little snotty kid has smashed the car window.....
I have just fitted a Sigma M12 alarm to my 2000 Alfa 156 (no alarm fitted as standard), it cost me £40, and a day to fit it properly, i know it wont stop someone getting in it, but it did bring the insurance down by £70

I got one from rclick along with proximity and shock sensors, comes with a nice key also (like the e46 has). I also plan on fitting a kill switch somewhere and have the EWS of the m52 as well. I know it can still be robbed but at least I'm not making it easy for them! No door locks on the door either

I fitted a dead man switch in a very VERYYYYY cunning place, more cunning than a fox that has just been made professor of cunning at Oxford university...
I would put more faith in my cunning than a car alarm that just produces Council ambiance

Suggestion made in my last post. Use a demister switch with the logo polished off,Jozi wrote: just havent thought of a good place to put a switch yet.
